Role overview
This position is for an experienced sales professional who will focus on enterprise accounts. Open source exposure is preferred, and prior experience selling early-stage enterprise software in an entrepreneurial environment would be especially valuable. The role plays a key part in Kong’s growth plans and customer acquisition efforts, and the Account Executive will serve as the main contact and public-facing representative for prospects.
Key responsibilities
- Promote and sell the Kong Enterprise Platform to enterprise customers by building and executing a pipeline strategy aimed at creating durable, long-term business.
- Deliver against individual sales quotas and performance targets.
- Own territory planning and forecasting for assigned accounts.
- Manage the full book of business, including understanding and documenting customer buying criteria and decision processes, choosing the right sales approach, maintaining pipeline accuracy with evidence, and progressing opportunities through close.
- Work closely with product, marketing, and customer success teams to provide a smooth sales journey and keep solutions aligned with customer needs.
- Represent Kong with professionalism and support prospects and customers to the best of your ability.
- Be willing to travel to customer locations when needed.
What we’re looking for
- Strong motivation to help customers realize value from their investment in Kong.
- At least 10 years of experience selling enterprise software, along with a solid network within the enterprise market.
- Proven track record of winning business from named enterprise accounts, including senior executives and multiple stakeholders across departments.
- Ability to use established relationships and effective sales methods to drive results.
- Comfort working in a fast-moving, entrepreneurial setting while taking full ownership of a sales territory and adjusting to changing market conditions.
- Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to spot growth opportunities and build plans around them.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
- Strong negotiation, presentation, and deal-closing capabilities.
- Highly self-driven, motivated, and focused on results.
