Job description

Role overview

This position supports engineering lab operations for the Custom CPU Power & Performance team. The role focuses on assembling, configuring, and deploying systems under test in a fast-moving lab setting, while following existing procedures and adjusting them when needed.

The technician will also handle setup, maintenance, and repair work for test systems, investigate faults, document findings, and may suggest likely causes and corrective actions. In addition, the role includes support for inventory control, asset tracking, ordering systems, and shipping and receiving tasks.

Work location

This is a Cork-based role and requires presence in the office five days per week.

Preferred experience and capabilities

  • Ability to carry out test plans and gather data efficiently based on instructions from engineers.
  • Exposure to schematic reading and Allegro board files is beneficial.
  • Hands-on experience with test instruments such as oscilloscopes and multimeters, plus the ability to load and run programs or firmware.
  • Background in building, configuring, and deploying test systems in an R&D environment.
  • Ability to spot equipment problems and help arrange repairs while recording actions taken to avoid repeat issues.
  • Strong habits around organizing lab equipment and accessories.
  • Advanced PCB soldering ability is an advantage.
  • Prior experience with inventory control and asset tracking is highly desirable.
  • Ability to identify, diagnose, and troubleshoot problems ranging from basic to complex system failures.
  • Comfort setting up and powering on systems with the correct BIOS/FW images and installed parts.
  • Good cross-functional communication skills for sharing updates, risks, and remediation plans.
  • Capability to manage priorities, deadlines, and deliverables with limited supervision.
  • Comfortable working across multiple operating systems; Linux or Android knowledge is a plus.
  • Experience with issue tracking or project tracking tools such as Jira is a plus.

Physical requirements

  • Regularly moves and installs equipment weighing up to 30 lbs.
  • May perform work while standing or sitting at different heights.
  • Uses computers and test equipment for more than six hours each day.
  • Needs sustained communication with colleagues, customers, and vendors, both in person and remotely.

Minimum qualification details

Candidates should meet one of the following combinations of education and experience:

  • Bachelor's degree with 1+ year of experience as an Engineering Technician or in a related role.
  • Associate's degree with 2+ years of experience as an Engineering Technician or in a related role.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent with 3+ years of experience as an Engineering Technician or in a related role.

A completed advanced degree in a relevant field may replace up to one year of work experience, with a Master’s degree counting as one year. The employer also notes that years of experience are indicative; applicants with equivalent experience who can demonstrate the necessary competencies will be considered.
