Job description
Role overview
The Energy Policy team works on policy development and market reform matters connected to residential batteries, virtual power plants, retail energy products, and home EV charging. This role is suited to someone who is enthusiastic about Tesla’s mission and can contribute to research, analysis, writing, and stakeholder engagement in a fast-moving energy environment.
Key responsibilities
- Examine state and federal energy policies and market reform proposals, then assess how they may affect Tesla’s business interests.
- Prepare written submissions for regulators, market operators, and state and federal government bodies.
- Create thought-leadership content such as articles and white papers focused on good practice in energy policy.
- Act as a representative for Tesla in industry working groups.
- Coordinate submission deadlines and gather inputs from different business functions to support the drafting process.
What the role requires
The position calls for strong writing skills, the ability to explain complex policy and market issues in a clear and concise way, and comfort engaging with and influencing external stakeholders. The team also values someone who can analyse data to support energy-related conclusions and arguments, work collaboratively across engineering, finance, legal, and other teams, and bring creativity, initiative, and a strong work ethic.
Additional information
This is a 6-month internship opportunity with a workload of 38 hours per week. The role is described as full-time in nature, and candidates who have recently completed their studies or are close to graduation are encouraged to apply. Periodic travel may be required.
About the team
The work is centred on advancing energy policy improvements in a technology-driven and expanding market landscape, with close coordination across internal teams and external customers and government stakeholders.
