Role overview

An opportunity has opened for an Administrator to join the Emergency Floor team at Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust. This role sits within a busy, fast-paced environment and supports the Emergency Department Reception, the Emergency Assessment Unit, and the Acute Medical Unit.

The team provides cover every day of the year, with reception and ward clerk support available around the clock. Shifts can be arranged flexibly, with working times offered between 8:00 am and midnight. Weekend, bank holiday, and Christmas/New Year cover are part of the rota.

What the role involves

This position is focused on front-line reception and ward clerk duties, with regular contact with patients and their relatives. The post holder will help ensure the service runs smoothly and professionally in line with Standard Operating Procedures.

The successful candidate will work as part of a motivated admin team supporting patient care and customer service across the Emergency Floor, alongside clinical colleagues.

Key duties

  • Provide efficient administrative and reception support across the Emergency Floor.
  • Act as the first point of contact for patients and relatives arriving at, or contacting, the Emergency Department.
  • Help maintain a courteous, respectful, and professional experience for all patients.
  • Support the Emergency Admin Team Leader with change management activities.
  • Contribute to smooth day-to-day operations across the Emergency Department Reception, Acute Medical Unit, and Emergency Assessment Unit.

Requirements

The ideal applicant will bring strong communication skills, a friendly and professional manner, and the ability to stay accurate while handling multiple tasks in a busy setting. Attention to detail is essential.

Full training will be provided, and management support is available for future career development opportunities.

There are no line management responsibilities and no budgetary control attached to this post.
