Job description
Role Overview
This position is responsible for keeping the rig’s electronic control and support systems in reliable working order, with a strong focus on subsea and MODU equipment. The role involves maintenance, fault-finding, repair, and operational support to help maintain rig efficiency, support client requirements, and reduce downtime. It also requires active participation in safety, environmental, and maintenance-system compliance.
Core Duties
- Carry out maintenance and repairs on MODU electronic control systems, supporting electronics, and interface equipment.
- Monitor all rig electronic systems, identify faults, and restore them to working condition when issues arise.
- Provide technical support for electronic systems so operations remain efficient and client objectives are met.
- Focus on keeping maintenance activities running smoothly and minimizing unplanned downtime.
- Support and enforce safety and environmental compliance requirements at all times.
- Assist the Technical Supervisor in applying effective maintenance practices and making sure the Noble Maintenance System is used correctly.
- Support the Electrician and Subsea Engineer when directed by the Technical Supervisor to maintain ongoing operations.
- Install, service, and repair electronic equipment installed on the rig.
- Complete unfinished repair and maintenance tasks safely, on time, accurately, and efficiently to keep backlog low.
- Work to keep equipment failures to a minimum and within contractual limits.
- Ensure permits, isolation tags, and logs always show the correct equipment status.
- Inspect work areas regularly and verify that tasks are being performed within permit conditions.
- Track programmable logic controllers and software versions and update them as needed.
- Maintain high housekeeping standards across all work areas onboard.
- Maintain clear two-way communication with crew members.
- Help develop newly appointed team members and contribute to their growth.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
DP Semi-submersible Specific Responsibilities
- Manage the rig maintenance system by creating, distributing, assigning, and checking planned corrective work orders within the Electronics Department.
- Recommend changes to procedures or maintenance frequencies that improve the Noble Maintenance System while staying compliant with the Management of Change process.
- Take part in daily departmental meetings at each shift handover to cover safety matters and maintenance-related updates.
Health, Safety & Environmental Duties
- Apply and follow the company’s safety policies and procedures.
- Ensure operations are conducted safely and report or correct unsafe acts and unsafe conditions.
- Encourage others to follow safety and environmental requirements as part of the Management System.
- Follow the Live Safe Code to support a zero-incident, no-harm workplace.
- Use the Hazard Identification Tool to help control risks from energy sources in the workplace.
- Attend and contribute to daily pre-tour and weekly safety meetings.
- Follow all requirements of the Management System.
- Call for a safety stand-down whenever an unexpected hazard or change in expected results is observed.
- Carry out all Safety Critical Tasks described in the HSE Case.
- Use STOP the job planning for all tasks, whether working individually or with a team.
- Take initiative in emergencies even without direct instructions.
- Develop and apply Job Safety Analyses and hazard assessments when required.
- Comply with all applicable government regulations.
Supervisory Scope
This role has direct oversight of Assistant Electronic Technicians, contractors, and vendors, and indirect interaction with rig personnel.
Qualifications & Experience
A recognized trade qualification from a technical college or apprenticeship is preferred. Candidates should have at least 5 years of documented experience working as an Electronics Technician on a MODU. All training required for the role must be completed within the designated timeframe. For DP semi-submersible operations, a Flag State Maintenance Supervisor license is required. The role also calls for strong troubleshooting ability, a full understanding of the Noble Maintenance System, and the ability to lead, coach, motivate, and mentor others.
Communication & Professional Skills
The position requires strong written and verbal communication skills, along with the ability to work effectively with diverse teams and operational groups. The ideal candidate should be able to recognize conflict early and help resolve it constructively.
