Role overview
Join a manufacturing team in Burnaby, British Columbia supporting a sister company that builds low-voltage and medium-voltage switchgear. In this role, you will focus on detailed electrical wiring and assembly work for switchgear and control panels, helping ensure each unit meets exact engineering and quality requirements.
What you will do
- Wire control panels, protection systems, and medium-voltage switchgear parts by following drawings, schematics, blueprints, and standard work instructions.
- Complete wire terminations accurately using crimping, soldering when required, lugs, and related hand tools.
- Operate semi-automated machines to cut, strip, crimp, and mark wires before installation.
- Organize, secure, route, and label wires and harnesses inside panels and enclosures.
- Install electrical and control components such as relays, meters, controllers, PLCs, terminal blocks, and protection devices.
- Fasten subassemblies and parts with hand tools and power tools as needed.
- Review technical drawings, wiring diagrams, electrical schematics, and assembly instructions specific to switchgear builds.
- Set up and maintain an efficient workstation that supports quality output while reducing scrap and rework.
- Coordinate with coworkers and supervisors to hit production timelines and quality goals.
- Keep the work area safe, tidy, and well organized while following all safety rules.
- Handle other production assembly tasks as assigned.
What we are looking for
- At least 1 year of experience in a skilled production setting involving electrical wiring or assembly of industrial control panels or comparable equipment.
- Ability to accurately interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical drawings.
- Comfort using electrical assembly tools such as wire strippers, crimpers, cutters, screwdrivers, wrenches, and drills.
- Practical experience with wire termination methods, including crimping and possibly soldering.
- Strong focus on detail and a consistent commitment to quality workmanship.
- Solid troubleshooting and problem-solving ability.
- Good manual dexterity and coordination between eyes and hands.
- Capacity to work independently as well as collaboratively.
- Dependable work habits and a strong work ethic.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills.
Work environment
This position is based in a manufacturing shop. The work includes repeated motions and physical tasks such as lifting, squatting, kneeling, bending, walking, torquing, pulling, carrying, crouching, and standing for long periods.
