Job description

Role overview

The BBC National Orchestra of Wales is looking for an Education Producer to help lead the BBC NOW Connect programme. This position is focused on creating wider access to orchestral music across Wales, particularly for communities that have fewer opportunities to engage with the arts. The role combines music education, project coordination and relationship-building, and sits alongside another Education Producer in supporting learning, arts and health, education, and talent development activity.

Why this role matters

You will join a team committed to making orchestral music more open, relevant and meaningful for people across Wales. Working with musicians, partners and community groups, you will help deliver cultural experiences that expand participation, encourage emerging talent and contribute to wellbeing. The post offers the chance to shape imaginative programmes, strengthen partnerships and grow professionally in a creative environment with national reach and social purpose.

Key duties

As Education Producer, you will take responsibility for planning, delivering and reviewing BBC NOW Connect work across regional hubs and national projects, ensuring it supports strategic goals.

You will develop inclusive learning and engagement projects, both in person and online, that open up orchestral music to broader audiences.

A major part of the role involves developing and sustaining partnerships with community groups, schools, arts organisations and health partners across Wales.

You will also support opportunities for young people and help create pathways into music, contributing to Wales’ future talent pipeline.

Working closely with musicians, you will help shape community-led activity, including long-term residency models and sustained engagement programmes.

The role includes managing budgets, resources, safeguarding arrangements, logistics and stakeholder relationships so that activity is delivered punctually, within budget and to BBC standards.

You will also build in monitoring and evaluation processes, using learning and feedback to show impact and improve future delivery.

Essential experience and attributes

Applicants should have experience creating and delivering strong learning or engagement activity in an arts, cultural or education environment.

You should bring solid project management ability, including the skill to organise, prioritise and deliver complex programmes on schedule and within budget.

Clear communication and strong people skills are needed, along with the ability to work effectively with a wide range of groups and stakeholders.

Experience of creating and maintaining effective partnerships with communities and organisations is essential.

You should also show a strong commitment to inclusion, diversity and widening access, with an understanding of how to lower barriers to participation.

Desirable experience

It would be an advantage to have worked with orchestras, musicians or within the classical music sector.

Knowledge of Wales’ education landscape, including music services and curriculum changes, would be useful.

Experience in arts and health or wellbeing-focused projects would also be beneficial.

Digital learning content creation or experience working across online platforms would be welcome.

Previous involvement in monitoring and evaluating projects to measure impact and shape future development is desirable.

Additional information

This role requires regular travel, with reasonable adjustments available where needed.

If you do not meet every requirement but can offer transferable strengths and relevant experience, you are encouraged to apply.
