About the Organization

Role Overview
This full-time Editor position is based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and follows a hybrid setup, allowing some work to be done from home. The selected candidate will review, refine, and approve news stories, features, and opinion content so that the final output is accurate, clear, and aligned with editorial standards. The role calls for close coordination with reporters and contributors, careful feedback on drafts, and oversight of headlines and layout across print and digital channels.
The Editor will also contribute to fact-checking, source verification, and the upkeep of fair, ethical, and non-discriminatory reporting standards in line with organizational policies. In addition, the role includes active participation in editorial discussions, helping shape coverage plans, and supporting ongoing improvements in newsroom workflows.
Key Responsibilities
- Examine, edit, and approve news, feature, and opinion content to ensure it is accurate, polished, and consistent with editorial guidelines.
- Work closely with reporters and contributors, offering clear and constructive feedback on drafts and story development.
- Oversee headlines and page/content presentation for both print and digital publishing formats.
- Assist with fact-checking and confirm information through reliable source verification.
- Help maintain ethical journalism standards, including impartial and non-discriminatory reporting.
- Take part in editorial meetings, support coverage planning, and contribute to newsroom process improvements.
Candidate Profile
- Excellent command of editorial review, structural editing, and headline writing for news and feature material.
- Ability to handle several assignments at once, collaborate with journalists, and work within strict publishing timelines.
- Strong written and spoken English; knowledge of local languages is an added advantage.
- Clear commitment to ethical journalism, balanced reporting, and inclusive content practices.
- Comfort using digital publishing tools, content management systems, and standard office software.
- Good news judgment, fact-checking ability, and awareness of current events in Ethiopia and the region.
- A bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Media Studies, or a similar field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Prior experience in a newsroom or media setting, ideally in an editorial or supervisory role.
