Role overview

Stock Transportation is hiring a full-time Dispatcher for its Hearst, Ontario location. The position offers a starting rate of $21.00 per hour, a company benefits package, and a sign-on bonus of $1,500.

What you will do

• Coordinate the day-to-day dispatch plan by assigning drivers, bus assistants, and vehicles to cover routes, field trips, and charter work.
• Make sure daily driver and bus assistant activities are completed on schedule.
• Share all relevant assignment details with drivers so trips and routes are carried out correctly.
• Support drivers with route guidance and special service instructions when needed.
• Recommend disciplinary action, including suspension or termination, for part-time staff when company policies are breached.
• Respond to emergency calls, activate emergency response procedures, arrange substitute buses and drivers, and coordinate service recovery when route issues arise.
• Inform district and customer service center staff about route changes, accidents, breakdowns, emergencies, and any other service disruptions.
• Keep route files and records current, including contract requirements, school details, student information, route adjustments, maps, vehicle data, bus assignments, and driver records, while meeting school board and provincial requirements.
• Work with the Maintenance Supervisor to schedule vehicle servicing and mechanical repairs to avoid interruptions in service.
• Follow dispatch standard operating procedures closely and consistently.
• Handle customer questions and concerns promptly and professionally, and escalate unresolved matters to management.
• Maintain strong ethical standards and report suspicious or inappropriate conduct to a supervisor or manager.

What we are looking for

• High school diploma or GED.
• Dispatch experience is preferred.
• Good knowledge of the surrounding area to support efficient routing.
• Strong ability to organize tasks and prioritize competing demands.
• Clear communication skills for working with colleagues and customers in high-pressure or fast-moving situations.
• Ability to read and interpret instructions, documents, and route-related information.
• Comfort working cooperatively and following instructions in a team setting.
• Ability to stay effective in a busy environment and perform well under pressure.
• Self-directed work style with the ability to operate independently when needed.
• Problem-solving ability and sound judgment.
• Experience using two-way and emergency radios.
• Familiarity with office equipment such as fax machines, scanners, copiers, zip drives, and telephone systems.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and computerized routing software.
• Ability to read road maps and street maps.
• Strong recordkeeping and organizational skills for dispatch and routing documentation.
• Bilingual ability is an asset.
