Job description
Role overview
The Director of Project Management is accountable for keeping all projects on track, within budget, and aligned with high quality expectations. The position requires active involvement with customers to set realistic expectations around supply chain limitations, budget considerations, and available resources.
In addition, this leader oversees shop capacity planning and coordinates project phase scheduling so resources are used effectively within operational limits. The role also includes guiding, coaching, and developing the project management team to improve client satisfaction, cost discipline, quality control, and overall profitability.
Leadership and team development
- Offer strategic direction, mentoring, and hands-on support to the project management group.
- Encourage a team culture built on collaboration and ongoing learning.
- Support and coach individual project managers so they follow best practices and deliver projects successfully.
Process ownership
- Create, improve, and maintain project management processes that drive efficiency and reflect current industry standards.
- Use technology-based tools to simplify project workflows, improve resource planning, and keep timelines on target.
- Track newly introduced processes and make adjustments where needed to increase their value and effectiveness.
- Partner with other departments to improve collaboration and strengthen productivity and project outcomes across the organization.
- Direct the project team so established processes are followed consistently, while providing structure and direction where needed.
- Coach project managers so they understand and apply standardized procedures correctly.
- Assist with change management efforts tied to process improvements and help ensure the team adopts them successfully.
- Review project performance data and use the findings to recommend practical improvements in efficiency and effectiveness.
- Make sure internal policies and contract commitments are followed, while building client needs into process design.
Project planning and execution
- Own the master schedule and ensure shop capacity and resource use are balanced effectively.
- Spot and reduce risks throughout the life of each project.
- Set up and monitor quality control practices, taking corrective action when required.
- Work closely with drafting, engineering, production, and supply chain teams to keep priorities aligned.
- Track project budgets so financial targets are achieved and profitability remains strong.
- Look for cost reduction opportunities and introduce methods that improve efficiency.
Health and safety
- Demonstrate safe work practices and help build a strong workplace culture focused on safety and environmental responsibility.
- Ensure operational staff comply with Makloc’s health and safety requirements.
Minimum qualifications
Education and certifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline is required.
- PMP or an equivalent project management certification is required.
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification is an advantage.
Experience and industry knowledge
- At least 10 years of construction project management experience, including 5 or more years in a senior leadership position.
- Demonstrated success handling large, complex projects while protecting profitability and customer satisfaction.
- Strong familiarity with metal building systems and applicable industry standards.
Skills and competencies
- Leadership, team development, and process improvement.
- Strong business judgment, problem-solving ability, and prioritization skills.
- Effective communication and relationship-building across teams and with clients.
- Ability to oversee multiple projects while maintaining financial stability.

Job type and work arrangement
This is a full-time, permanent position based in person in Nisku, Alberta. No hybrid or remote arrangement is available.
