Job description

Role overview

This opportunity is for a field-led Director of Operations to manage the Alabama market for a private equity-backed dental services organization. The position covers roughly 15 to 20 practices and carries full responsibility for how the market performs operationally, financially, and in terms of growth.

The role is designed for a practical, on-the-ground leader who enjoys working directly with teams, strengthening accountability, and improving results across multiple locations.

Location: Alabama, United States

Platform: PE-backed DSO

Compensation: $110,000 to $130,000 base salary plus bonus

Key responsibilities

  • Take complete ownership of the Alabama market, including oversight of about 15 or more locations.
  • Carry full profit and loss responsibility with accountability for revenue, profitability, and overall market results.
  • Raise operational standards across every location and ensure key performance measures are consistently met.
  • Coach, guide, and develop practice leaders, office managers, and broader operational teams.
  • Promote a strong culture centered on accountability, high performance, and ongoing improvement.
  • Review KPIs, financial performance, and operating data to spot risks and growth opportunities.
  • Identify practices that are not meeting expectations and put structured improvement plans in place.
  • Work alongside providers and practice leadership to strengthen patient experience, production, collections, and practice performance.
  • Assist with hiring, onboarding, and retention efforts across the market.
  • Build succession plans and help identify future operational leaders within the organization.
  • Drive change initiatives and encourage adoption of operational best practices.
  • Create operating frameworks that improve consistency, efficiency, and scalability.
  • Partner with executive leadership on market strategy, growth plans, and longer-term planning.
  • Maintain a strong in-practice presence by spending substantial time in the field supporting teams and solving operational issues.
  • Ensure the market delivers on financial, operational, and patient care goals.

Candidate profile

The ideal candidate brings deep multi-site DSO leadership experience, strong financial awareness, and a proven record of improving performance across a region, market, or business unit. This person should be comfortable making decisions with limited direction and should bring a hands-on leadership style that is visible in the field.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of leadership experience in multi-site DSO operations.
  • Experience managing a region, market, or business unit with direct P&L responsibility.
  • Demonstrated ability to improve revenue, profitability, and operating performance.
  • Strong business and financial understanding, including the ability to interpret KPIs, financial statements, and operating metrics.
  • Background in leading teams across multiple locations and building effective leaders.
  • Proven success in turning around underperforming practices, markets, or business units.
  • Ability to work through ambiguity and make decisions without heavy oversight.
  • Strong skills in conflict resolution and change leadership.
  • Willingness to spend significant time in practices rather than working primarily from an office.
  • Advanced Excel and reporting skills are preferred.
  • Experience in PE-backed healthcare organizations is helpful, though not mandatory.

Why this role stands out

  • End-to-end ownership of a market.
  • Direct accountability for profit and loss.
  • High level of operational freedom.
  • Close interaction with executive leadership.
  • Chance to shape strategy and business outcomes.
  • Opportunity to work in a fast-growing PE-backed environment.
  • Clear advancement potential as the platform grows.
