The role is designed to keep engineering operations aligned with an exceptional guest experience, while also safeguarding safety, compliance, sustainability, and financial outcomes. It involves long-range asset planning, oversight of major improvement projects, and leadership of preventive and predictive maintenance programs to extend equipment life and improve reliability.

As part of the Executive Committee, this leader works with hotel management to align engineering priorities with business goals and acts as the primary coordinator for emergency readiness and response tied to facility operations.

Engineering Operations and Technical Leadership

  • Provide overall direction for engineering and maintenance activities across the property.
  • Oversee the performance, maintenance, and optimization of HVAC equipment, chillers, cooling towers, boilers, refrigeration units, power distribution systems, generators, UPS units, plumbing networks, water treatment systems, pool systems, kitchen and laundry machinery, elevators, and BMS.
  • Design and apply preventive and predictive maintenance frameworks to improve dependability and reduce operational interruptions.
  • Track engineering KPIs, identify efficiency gaps, and introduce corrective measures to improve performance.
  • Ensure engineering work follows SOPs and the guidance provided by equipment manufacturers.

Asset Management and Capital Planning

  • Lead preparation and delivery of the annual Engineering Business Plan and related department targets.
  • Prepare, defend, and manage annual operating budgets and capital spending plans for engineering.
  • Maintain a 5 to 10-year replacement roadmap for key plant and equipment.
  • Oversee renovation work, equipment replacement, and capital improvement projects from planning through handover.
  • Manage contractors, consultants, and project teams to ensure safe delivery, on-time completion, budget control, and specification compliance.

Financial Management

  • Monitor spending and maintain tight control over engineering operating costs.
  • Review financial statements, payroll information, utility trends, and P&L data to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Introduce savings initiatives across energy use, maintenance methods, procurement, and service contracts.
  • Maintain control of engineering stock, tools, spare parts, and consumables.
  • Support annual budgeting and forecasting activities.

Energy and Sustainability Management

  • Drive energy-saving programs that lower utility usage while preserving guest comfort and operational effectiveness.
  • Analyze and optimize electricity, water, gas, and fuel consumption using data and system improvements.
  • Encourage sustainable engineering practices and contribute to environmental programs aligned with corporate sustainability goals.
  • Assess new technologies and recommend upgrades that improve performance and reduce environmental impact.

Fire, Life Safety, and Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure adherence to all relevant local laws, Qatar Civil Defence requirements, health and safety obligations, environmental rules, and hotel brand standards.
  • Keep fire detection, fire suppression, emergency lighting, evacuation, and life safety systems fully operational.
  • Oversee testing, inspection, certification, and servicing of all statutory equipment and systems.
  • Maintain current permits, licenses, certifications, and maintenance records for audit readiness.
  • Chair the Emergency Response Team and lead planning for facility-related emergencies.

Team Leadership and Talent Development

  • Lead, coach, and develop the engineering leadership team and technical staff to build accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Set clear expectations and carry out regular performance reviews.
  • Assess training needs and support technical and leadership development programs.
  • Promote a safe workplace through strong health and safety practices.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, labour regulations, and disciplinary procedures.

Applicants should hold a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related field from an accredited institution. Professional certifications in HVAC, electrical systems, facilities management, energy management, or project management are an added advantage.

The position calls for 8–10 years of progressive engineering experience in luxury hospitality, including 3–5 years in a senior engineering leadership role. Experience in large hotel engineering environments, ideally within internationally recognized five-star hotels or resorts, is preferred. A strong background in preventive maintenance, lifecycle asset planning, capital project delivery, budgeting, utility optimization, and vendor management is required.
