Role Summary

Peerless-AV is looking for an accomplished, practical engineering leader to oversee Design Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Technical Illustration, and Engineering Regulatory Affairs. This leadership position covers a broad range of engineering work across AV mounting solutions, kiosks, and outdoor displays.

The Director of Engineering will guide engineering strategy, provide technical direction, and ensure that programs move efficiently from concept to production while staying aligned with business goals. The role requires both long-range planning and active involvement in solving difficult technical issues. The right candidate will be effective in a fast-moving manufacturing setting and motivated by product development, operational excellence, and ongoing improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the Design Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Technical Illustration, and Regulatory Affairs teams.
  • Oversee engineering programs from concept through production, with attention to timing, quality, cost, and business alignment.
  • Build, refine, and standardize engineering processes, procedures, and cross-functional workflows.
  • Work closely with Product Management, Production, Quality, Supply Chain, and outside suppliers across the product lifecycle.
  • Provide strategic input on industry trends, new technologies, and competitive market positioning.
  • Strengthen manufacturing readiness using DFMA principles, process improvements, and production support.
  • Ensure products and processes meet relevant regulatory and certification requirements, including UL, FCC, and CE.
  • Hire, coach, develop, and retain strong engineering talent.
  • Encourage a workplace culture centered on accountability, innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Support Quality Management Systems (QMS) and Environmental Management Systems (EMS) goals and activities.
  • Perform additional duties as needed.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering is required; an advanced degree is preferred.
  • At least 10 years of hands-on product development engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • At least 8 years of engineering leadership and people management experience.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams through full product development cycles from concept to production.
  • Strong working knowledge of DFMA, FMEA, engineering validation, testing methods, and regulatory certification processes.
  • Broad technical understanding of heat transfer, thermodynamics, statics, strength of materials, FEA, electrical systems, electronics, software, and firmware.
  • Experience with manufacturing methods such as sheet metal fabrication, welding, extrusion, casting, injection molding, painting, and assembly.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD tools; SolidWorks is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to create and review engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Strong project management, troubleshooting, and resource-planning abilities.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience with ISO-based quality systems and process development is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to lead QMS and EMS efforts, maintain policy and objective alignment, support planning, integrate requirements into business processes, and drive continual improvement.

Working Conditions

  • Most work is expected to be desk- and computer-based for extended periods.
  • Occasional time may be spent in plant and warehouse areas where temperature, humidity, and dust levels can vary.
  • Some bending, lifting, or moving materials up to 30 lbs may be required occasionally.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required when appropriate.

Additional Information

The company offers stability, competitive compensation, and a strong benefits package that includes Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO medical coverage with vision and dental care, a 401(k) plan with company match, paid vacation, and a friendly, progressive workplace.

All applicant information will be handled confidentially in line with EEO guidelines.
