Role Overview
The Director General is a top-level leadership role focused on setting direction for the organization and overseeing its day-to-day execution. The position calls for a seasoned leader with deep experience running complex operations, shaping and delivering strategy, and guiding cross-functional teams. A key part of the role is to build a workplace culture rooted in innovation, accountability, and inclusion, while also ensuring strong governance and full compliance with regulatory expectations.
This position also requires strong commercial awareness, sharp analytical thinking, and the ability to align leadership decisions with the organization’s mission and long-term goals. As part of the executive leadership group, the Director General will work closely with stakeholders, advance advocacy priorities, and represent the organization in national and international settings.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and execute long-range organizational plans that support the mission and vision.
- Direct daily operations and make sure policies and programs are delivered effectively across all functions.
- Encourage innovation and ongoing improvement across the organization.
- Guide the executive team in planning and execution so that operational work stays aligned with strategic goals.
- Build and sustain productive relationships with important stakeholders, including government leaders, business executives, and community partners.
- Represent the organization in policy conversations, conferences, and public engagements while advocating for its priorities.
- Track organizational performance against targets and introduce corrective measures where needed.
- Support financial stability by leading budgeting and resource-allocation decisions in line with strategic priorities.
- Strengthen the compliance environment to reduce risk and protect organizational integrity.
- Coach senior leaders and staff to support professional growth and leadership development.
Required Profile
- At least 15 years of demonstrated experience in senior executive leadership, ideally in a comparable sector or organization.
- Advanced qualification in Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related discipline; an MBA is preferred.
- Strong understanding of governance frameworks and strategic planning approaches.
- Hands-on experience in financial oversight, including budgeting, forecasting, and allocation of resources.
- Proven ability to engage and manage relationships with stakeholders at local, national, and international levels.
- Solid background in leading organizational change and transformation initiatives.
- Strong capability in compliance and risk oversight, with attention to legal and regulatory requirements.
- Ability to analyze data and performance indicators to improve organizational outcomes.
- Experience coaching and developing senior leaders while building a high-performance culture.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presenting to boards and other stakeholders.
