Royal Mail is looking for a Delivery Postie with Driving to join the Wincanton Delivery Office team on a permanent basis. This role is based in Wincanton, with the main delivery office at BA9 9ZZ and some Sunday working at Yeovil Delivery Office, BA20 1AA.
The role is set at 37.00 hours each week and follows a five-day pattern across Monday to Saturday, with shifts rotating between 08:09 - 15:30 and 10:30 - 18:00. On Sundays, the working window is 11:30 - 19:30 at Yeovil Delivery Office. Because of operational needs, Saturday and Sunday working will be required according to the local rota or plan.
About the role
This is an active, outdoor delivery job that combines walking, customer service, and driving. The work plays an important part in connecting local homes and businesses with the items and messages that matter most, from important documents to everyday parcels. The position is suited to someone who enjoys being out in the community, takes pride in dependable service, and is comfortable working in all weather conditions.
Royal Mail describes this as a great time to join, as the organisation continues to evolve for the future while serving communities across the country every day.
What you will be doing
You will be responsible for delivering mail and parcels safely and reliably within your local area, representing the business in the community, and maintaining high standards of customer service throughout your route.
Candidate profile
The ideal person is cheerful, self-driven, well organised, and able to work independently. You should be punctual, confident interacting with people, and happy to spend long periods walking outdoors regardless of weather. A strong sense of community and pride in your work are important for this role.
Licence requirement
A full UK manual driving licence is required, with no more than 6 penalty points.
Pay and benefits
The role offers a guaranteed hourly rate of £13.68, paid monthly and adjusted to match your working hours.
Other benefits include 22.5 days of holiday, increasing with length of service and adjusted for anyone working below 37 hours per week; a full uniform; a competitive company pension scheme; opportunities to build a long-term career through trainee manager positions and apprenticeship schemes; enhanced family leave support including maternity, paternity, adoption and shared parental leave; 24/7 wellbeing support for you and your family; access to discounts on high street vouchers, travel, attractions, beauty products and gym membership; and free stamps at Christmas.
Additional information
For candidate search purposes, jobs between 35 and 37 hours per week are shown as full-time. However, any role under 37 hours per week is treated as part-time in the employment contract.
If selected, the first stage of the hiring process will be an interview. Applicants should make sure their contact details are current and review the required document checklist and health-related guidance before applying.
Royal Mail Group says it is committed to inclusion and to reflecting the communities it serves. Applications are welcomed from all individuals. As a Gold signatory to the Armed Forces Covenant, the organisation especially encourages applications from the Armed Forces community, including cadet instructors and spouses or partners. Reasonable adjustments can be discussed with the recruiter if needed during the hiring process.
