Job description

About the Company

Cerberus is a global alternative asset manager founded in 1992, with about $70 billion in assets spread across credit, private equity, and real estate. The firm invests across the capital structure and combines its investment teams with operational capabilities to improve performance and create long-term value. Its teams work across asset classes, sectors, and geographies to pursue attractive risk-adjusted returns.

Role Overview

Cerberus’s Residential Opportunities platform was launched in 2008 to take advantage of distressed residential mortgage-backed securities after the Global Financial Crisis. Since then, the platform has broadened its expertise in residential debt and has become known for innovation and leadership in securitizing performing residential real estate loans and investing in single-family rental properties.

The Residential Opportunities strategies aim to generate strong absolute returns through both capital appreciation and current income, with a primary focus on mortgages, loans, and real assets. The platform uses proprietary asset management capabilities to improve performance and create value.

As a Data & Strategy Analyst within Cerberus Operations and Advisory, you will strengthen the team’s analytical and modeling work across the Residential Real Estate strategy. The role spans analysis of hard-asset and capital-markets transactions, support for operational excellence, reporting, asset-performance modeling, and research. You will work closely with portfolio managers, data scientists, and leaders in the property management platform to design and execute investment and operational initiatives. This position sits in a startup-like environment where priorities can shift quickly, problems may be ambiguous, and solutions are often not predefined.

What You'll Do

  • Examine structured and unstructured information tied to residential real estate, property management, and credit underwriting operations to surface insights that guide investment choices.
  • Build and maintain clear data visualizations and presentations using tools such as PowerPoint, Python, Tableau, and Power BI.
  • Convert business questions and investment concepts into well-defined data problems by isolating the main drivers and aligning business goals with the right cost functions.
  • Own projects from start to finish, including defining success measures, working with data and algorithms, developing statistical models, and producing reporting tools for wider use.
  • Partner with cross-functional colleagues to deliver work on time and to a high standard.
  • Develop a deeper understanding of investing and real estate fundamentals by applying analytical thinking to market trends and financial concepts.
  • Help configure and troubleshoot data connections and systems such as Snowflake, APIs, and MCPs, while working with IT teams to adopt new tools and platforms.
  • Contribute positively to team projects and help maintain an effective, collaborative working environment.
  • Operate independently in loosely defined assignments by framing the issue, choosing an approach, and driving the work through to completion.
  • Show curiosity, initiative, and interest in AI and emerging analytical tools.

Qualifications

  • 1 to 3 years of professional experience.
  • A degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Mathematics, or another quantitative discipline is preferred; applicants with backgrounds in business, finance, or economics are also welcome if they have strong technical skills.
  • Hands-on experience with Python, SQL, and Git.
  • Exposure to Azure, Snowflake, Power BI, or Fabric is an advantage, though these tools can be learned on the job.
  • Proven ability to work with large datasets, including cleaning, organizing, summarizing, and interpreting them.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and self-motivation.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain findings to both technical and non-technical audiences, including senior leadership.
  • Comfort with ambiguous requests and a collaborative team-based work style.

Compensation and Benefits

The expected base salary range for this role is $115,000 to $140,000 per year. The final offer will depend on the candidate’s relevant experience and other qualifications, at the company’s sole discretion. The role also includes eligibility for an annual discretionary bonus, which can represent a significant part of total compensation, along with a comprehensive benefits package.
