Job description
About the Company
Creative Activation is a privately owned, family-founded business focused on driving grocery sales growth across Australia. It operates with a close-knit culture rather than a corporate one, where people are known personally, leaders are approachable, and decisions are made quickly by those who are accountable for the result.
The business has earned six Supplier of the Year awards across Metcash, Foodland, and Ritchies. It oversees a national portfolio worth more than $40 million and works with leading tier-one brands. With a leadership team that collectively brings over a century of FMCG experience, the organisation offers direct learning from senior people in a flat structure.
Role Overview
This position is for a graduate data scientist to join a small, high-performing team supporting analytics across a tier-one portfolio in Australia’s independent grocery sector. It is a four-day role that is intentionally structured to match the actual workload. The fifth day is left free so you can continue your studies, focus on development, or enjoy better work-life balance.
What You Will Be Doing
You will work alongside a senior account manager and support the same categories they manage. The role combines analytical delivery with commercial support.
Analytics and Reporting
- Prepare monthly promotional return-on-investment analysis, comparing actual results with expected outcomes, baseline effects, and rate of sale.
- Complete pre-promotion assessments covering projected uplift, margin effect, and the risk of cannibalisation.
- Assist with range reviews using scan performance data from Circana/IRI.
- Create briefing packs for field teams and help shape cycle priorities.
- Develop dashboards and automate reporting where a more efficient or clearer presentation of the data is possible.
What We Are Looking For
- A recent graduate in data science, analytics, commerce, economics, or another quantitative field.
- Strong capability in Excel, along with a genuine interest in data. Python, Power BI, SQL, or similar tools are advantageous but not mandatory.
- An interest in how data influences business decisions, rather than analysing data in isolation.
- A commercially minded approach, with curiosity about why an investment performed as it did.
- The ability to work independently, manage tasks responsibly, and stay disciplined with limited supervision.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to turn analysis into clear commercial recommendations for buyers or sales teams.
Why Join Creative Activation
- A four-day working week designed around the workload, with the fifth day kept free.
- An $80,000 package including superannuation.
- Exposure to tier-one brands and strong commercial experience that adds credibility to your CV from day one.
- A flat organisation with direct access to the CEO, NBM, and senior leaders, where ideas and contributions are visible.
- Guidance from experienced leaders who mentor rather than simply manage, with more than 100 years of combined FMCG knowledge.
- Real commercial ownership, including participation in buyer meetings, data presentations, and recommendation defence.
- Hands-on experience with Circana/IRI data, promotional ROI models, and real commercial datasets, plus support to build predictive models, automate reporting, or create dashboards.
- Values-led culture built around Partnership, Unity, Results, Positivity, Laughter, and Excellence.
- Walsh Bay office benefits including a daily barista, breakfast, and end-of-trip facilities.
- Opportunities for career growth through capability building and varied experience.
Who This Role Suits
- A data science or analytics graduate looking to apply technical skills to real commercial challenges.
- A commerce graduate who wants to build analytical ability alongside hands-on business experience.
- A postgraduate student seeking genuine ownership while still having one day available for study.
- Someone interested in learning FMCG from the inside, including promotional mechanics, trade spend, buyer negotiation, and category management.
- A person who prefers autonomy, accountability, and direct leadership access over a large structured graduate program.
How to Apply
Submit your CV together with a short note explaining why the role suits you. The focus is on finding the right person, not only the most polished CV.
Additional Information
The company describes its culture as built on real ownership, real relationships, and a team that succeeds together.
