About the Role

The Alexa Daily Essentials team creates essential experiences shaping how users interact with Alexa for everyday tasks such as managing Timers, Alarms, Calendars, Food, and News. These experiences involve time-saving features, ad-supported news content, and detailed kitchen assistance designed to support family needs throughout the day.

Key Responsibilities

  • Interpret complex datasets to detect patterns, derive insights, and diagnose anomalies that impact user experience.
  • Develop advanced analytical methodologies and models that guide product and engineering teams toward actionable improvements.
  • Collaborate directly with product stakeholders to identify challenges and opportunities, applying diverse data science techniques to inform product development and create scalable automated solutions.
  • Construct data pipelines and identify innovative data sources across Alexa and broader Amazon environments.
  • Write and optimize SQL and ETL processes to manage data acquisition efficiently.
  • Communicate sophisticated concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Build and maintain stakeholder relationships to convert analytical findings into practical recommendations.
  • Enhance team productivity by creating compelling data visualizations, presentations, and dashboards to promote data asset and insight adoption.
  • Work across multiple teams and disciplines, mentoring others to cultivate continuous learning and growth.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years as a data scientist.
  • At least 2 years’ experience with data querying languages such as SQL, scripting languages like Python, or statistical software including R, SAS, or Matlab.
  • Over 2 years experience in machine learning, statistical modeling, and related analytical techniques with awareness of factors influencing model performance.
  • Master’s degree in a STEM field or equivalent STEM work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of machine learning principles and their practical applications for problem-solving.
  • Proficiency in Python, Perl, or comparable scripting languages.
  • Prior experience in machine learning or data science roles within large technology companies.
  • Successful track record working on multi-team, interdisciplinary projects.
  • Expertise in applying quantitative analysis to resolve business challenges and make informed, data-driven decisions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for explaining complex topics clearly.

Compensation & Benefits

This position offers an annual salary range of 109100 to 182200 CAD. Amazon’s comprehensive compensation package may also include sign-on bonuses and restricted stock units (RSUs). Benefits include health coverage (medical, dental, vision, prescription, life and AD&D insurance), Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP), Deferred Profit Sharing Plan (DPSP), paid time off, and wellness resources.
