The opportunity
Orrcon Steel Distribution is hiring a Customer Service Officer for its Albany, Western Australia branch. Orrcon Steel Distribution supplies steel and aluminium products across Australia, supported by technical know-how, strong quality controls, traceability, and a nationwide distribution network that helps ensure dependable supply for a range of industries.
This role is more than standard front-desk support. The business is looking for a versatile team member who can contribute to sales growth, follow up on leads, build strong customer relationships, and step in wherever needed. You will also be responsible for careful record-keeping and accurate data entry so that orders and customer deliveries are handled correctly and the branch runs efficiently.
What you will do
- Respond to customer enquiries face-to-face, by phone, and by email, and provide prompt, practical support to clients in farming, construction, fabrication, and manufacturing.
- Produce precise quotations and actively follow up on opportunities to convert leads into sales.
- Work closely with external sales representatives by sharing local knowledge, customer insights, and reliable follow-through.
- Take initiative to resolve issues, improve workflows, and enhance the customer experience on an ongoing basis.
- Support daily branch activities, including serving customers at the counter and assisting the team during busy periods.
What you will bring
- Well-developed communication skills with the confidence to interact clearly and professionally with a wide range of people.
- A customer-first approach, including the discipline to follow through and complete tasks properly.
- The ability to manage a changing workload, stay composed under pressure, and handle several tasks at once.
- A responsible, proactive attitude and pride in doing work accurately and thoroughly.
- Comfort using technology and picking up new systems quickly; experience with SAP or a similar platform would be an advantage.
