Job description
Role summary
This position is for a Construction Supervisor focused on piping work in Doha, Qatar, supporting a major oil and gas client. The employer is an international workforce solutions company operating across the energy, process, and infrastructure sectors, with a large global contractor network.
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized international university is required.
- Formal exposure to QA/QC functions is preferred.
Experience and technical background
- You should be a strong safety leader.
- A minimum of 10 years of total experience is required in piping erection, both underground and aboveground, pressure testing, mechanical completion, and oil and gas construction.
- Prior work as an EPIC contractor supervisor is essential; experience as a client or PMC supervisor is an advantage.
- Current or recent experience in Qatar industrial cities or other GCC countries is required.
- Background in piping inspection, rotating equipment, and inspection coordination is advantageous.
- Working knowledge of piping codes and standards such as ASME, ANSI B31.3, B31.1, and Shell DEP requirements is expected.
- Certifications in welding or nondestructive testing inspection, such as AWS, ASNT, CSWIP, or API, would be a plus.
- Experience with pipe coating methods and systems, including painting, galvanizing, wrapping, and insulation, is beneficial; BGAS certification is an advantage.
- You should have deep experience in pipe spooling fabrication, pipe supports, and erection of carbon steel, stainless steel, alloy steel, uPVC, and GRE/GRV systems, including pressure testing, pre-commissioning, and mechanical completion checks.
- Strong English communication skills are required, along with the ability to interpret piping drawings, P&IDs, and vendor instructions.
- Relevant experience should include greenfield or new-build sites, brownfield or live process plants, permit-to-work systems, isolation and lockout/tagout of live services, and tie-ins to operating facilities.
- Knowledge of lifting plans and crane studies is needed; an approved lifting supervisor certificate would be an advantage.
- Experience in stage inspection and testing in line with approved ITPs is expected.
- You should bring strong technical judgement, prioritization, management, communication, influencing, and interface skills.
- Proficiency with MS Office tools and discipline-related engineering software is required.
Primary duties
- Promote safe execution by ensuring the contractor follows company life-saving rules and all environmental and safety requirements of the company and the State of Qatar.
- Report site progress, major issues, emerging trends, and improvement suggestions to the Discipline Construction Lead or Senior Construction Supervisor.
- Support review and approval of construction documents such as method statements, job hazard analyses, and material approval requests, and join HSE walkthroughs.
- Oversee EPIC contractor piping installation for process and utility systems, covering both aboveground and underground services, in line with approved engineering documents and the project schedule.
- Attend inspections and witness activities under approved ITPs, including material receiving checks, and sign inspection and test records as needed.
- Verify workmanship quality, dimensional accuracy, and correct installation of accessories and in-line items according to design specifications.
- Lead the contractor on mechanical execution matters related to piping works.
- Supervise line checks, punch-list clearing, hydrotesting, and reinstatement activities at site.
- Manage final mechanical completion inspections and punch closure.
- Oversee pre-commissioning activities to protect safety and quality.
- Take part in technical integrity reviews, HSE audits, process safety management, and PSSR activities.
- Support operations during pre-startup and startup activities when assigned.
- Coordinate contractor mobilization to site.
- Perform daily verification of contractor manpower and previous-day work progress to ensure compliance with contract requirements.
- Read and interpret P&IDs, GA drawings, isometrics, piping standard drawings, support drawings, and equipment layout drawings.
- Maintain a daily progress log and document unusual events, deviations, and recommended corrective actions.
- Sign work permits on behalf of the company and monitor contractor adherence to permit requirements.
- Contribute to as-built drawing and documentation development.
- Inspect work in progress, flag issues, and help prevent incidents by enforcing company safety standards at the worksite.
- Coordinate with the QA/QC Inspector on all quality-related matters.
