Role overview

The Compliance Director will shape and run the organization’s compliance structure, making sure internal practices align with applicable laws, regulations, and company policies. This position also helps build a strong culture of ethics, accountability, and risk awareness while supporting broader business goals.

Core responsibilities

  • Create, update, and manage compliance policies, procedures, and controls across the organization.
  • Track legal, regulatory, and industry changes and ensure required updates are rolled out on time.
  • Assess compliance-related risks and recommend practical ways to reduce exposure.
  • Direct internal compliance reviews, investigations, and audits.
  • Advise leaders and staff on regulatory expectations and ethical standards.
  • Design and conduct compliance training and awareness initiatives.
  • Work closely with Legal, Human Resources, Internal Audit, Finance, and other teams to maintain compliance.
  • Oversee whistleblowing and ethics channels and support resolution of reported issues.
  • Compile periodic reports and deliver updates, risk summaries, and recommendations to senior leadership and the Board.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and records related to compliance activities.
  • Manage third-party due diligence and vendor compliance checks.

Qualifications and experience

A bachelor’s degree in Law, Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a similar discipline is required, while a master’s degree is an added advantage. The role calls for 10–15 years of relevant experience in compliance, risk management, internal audit, legal, or governance work, including at least 5 years in a leadership position. Candidates should have a solid grasp of applicable laws, regulations, and compliance frameworks. Certifications such as CCEP, CRCM, CAMS, CIA, or comparable credentials are preferred. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving ability, and sound decision-making are essential.
