Role overview
This role is for an accomplished Community Affairs Manager to drive engagement with stakeholders, oversee landowner relationships, and manage social performance work that supports mining operations. The position focuses on building trust with surrounding communities, coordinating development initiatives, and helping the business operate smoothly in a remote and culturally varied setting.
Location and eligibility
The job is based in Central Province, Papua New Guinea. Applications are open to Papua New Guinea and Australia nationals.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and sustain productive working relationships with landowners, community groups, government bodies, NGOs, and other local stakeholders.
- Run consultation activities, community engagement efforts, and grievance handling processes.
- Assist with land access discussions and help resolve matters arising from community concerns.
- Plan and coordinate community development programs such as education support, livelihood initiatives, and local business development.
- Spot community-related risks early and take steps to reduce their impact on operations.
- Support government liaison work and help ensure commitments made to communities are met.
- Guide Community Affairs staff and prepare routine updates and reports for management.
Requirements
- Background in community relations, stakeholder engagement, or social performance, ideally in mining, infrastructure, or a comparable sector.
- Proven ability to lead teams and handle negotiation, communication, and conflict resolution effectively.
- Comfort working with multiple stakeholders in remote, culturally diverse environments.
