Role overview
This position is for an entry-level kitchen team member focused on tandoor preparation in Visakhapatnam. Working closely with the head chef and senior culinary staff, you will help prepare authentic tandoor-based dishes while keeping pace with quality, hygiene, and service standards in a busy kitchen.
Key responsibilities
- Manage the tandoor oven, including temperature control and dependable cooking output.
- Prepare, season, and marinate meats and vegetables as per recipes and chef instructions.
- Use proper knife handling and food-preparation methods while maintaining safety and precision.
- Keep the assigned work area clean, organized, and ready with the necessary tools and ingredients.
- Coordinate with fellow kitchen staff so dishes are prepared and plated on time during service.
- Track cooking times and heat levels to ensure food is served to the expected standard.
- Assist with stock checks, rotation of supplies, and communicating replenishment needs.
- Follow hygiene, sanitation, and food-safety rules without exception.
- Carry out recipes and cooking steps exactly as directed by senior team members.
- Pitch in at other kitchen sections whenever support is needed for smooth operations.
Requirements
- Hands-on ability to use and maintain a tandoor oven.
- Working knowledge of Indian cooking and traditional tandoor methods.
- Good understanding of commercial kitchen food safety and hygiene practices.
- Comfort working in a busy, high-output kitchen environment.
- Strong planning and multitasking skills.
- Ability to work well with teammates and communicate clearly.
- Physical endurance to remain on your feet for long periods and repeat kitchen tasks.
- Basic knife handling and food-preparation experience.
- Understanding of spice mixes, marinades, and tandoor flavor profiles.
- Willingness to follow instructions from senior kitchen staff.
- Prior exposure to a professional kitchen is preferred.
- Knowledge of food costing and portion control is preferred.
