Job description

Role overview

HII Mission Technologies is hiring an Operations Planner to support a range of mission areas such as Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD), JADC2/Defensive Cyber, Information Operations, and ISR Operations. The role serves as a subject matter expert for U-A/A5M work, helping develop, plan, integrate, train, and execute Integrated Air and Missile Defense activities.

About the organization

This position sits within All-Domain Operations, a business group in HII’s Mission Technologies division. The broader team works across multi-domain operations, platform and logistics support, and intelligence operations. Mission Technologies provides advanced defense and national security solutions spanning C5ISR, AI and Big Data, cyber operations, synthetic training, fleet sustainment, environmental remediation, and unmanned underwater vehicles.

Key duties

  • Examine PMESII factors and assess how political, military, economic, social, information, and infrastructure conditions affect military strategy, operation planning, and the execution of missions.
  • Support the integration of U-A regional strategies into operational planning and crisis action planning workflows.
  • Help develop OPLANS, EXORDS, crisis action planning documents, OPT membership materials, and CONPLAN rewrites.
  • Prepare IAMD planning inputs and research materials for Joint Lessons Learned databases.
  • Analyze the IAMD or JADC2 planning process to help determine effective courses of action covering equipment, weapons, tactics, strategy, doctrine, organization, training, and facilities.
  • Provide planning and operations support under the joint military decision-making process for IAMD/JADC2 mission execution and theater objectives.
  • Offer operational, exercise, and engagement planning support, including SME guidance on integrating JADC2 systems and capabilities into a U.S. Component Air Operations Center.
  • Advise the Area Air Defense Commander and supporting teams on joint and allied air, space, and missile defense, interface control, C2 datalink architectures, and JADC2 network implementation.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Experience and clearance

The role requires a TS/SCI security clearance that must be held and maintained. Travel may be required up to 10%.

Minimum experience can be met in either of two ways: 5 years of relevant experience with a bachelor’s degree in a related field, or a high school diploma/equivalent with 9 years of relevant experience. Candidates should already understand operational planning concepts and how they are applied in practice, and must have prior experience with the Joint Planning Process relevant to the assignment.

Preferred background

Additional consideration is given to applicants with one of the following: an associate degree plus at least 7 years of recent specialized experience; a recognized major industry certification plus at least 7 years of recent specialized experience; or 11 years of recent specialized experience without a degree or certification. A background in DoD IAMD capabilities, JADC2 operational capabilities, and information operations planning is strongly preferred.

Work environment and physical demands

The job may be performed in office, industrial, shipboard, or laboratory settings. The role may involve climbing ladders, working in confined spaces, and handling large temperature changes.

Benefits and additional information

HII offers a competitive benefits package that can include medical, dental, and vision coverage; wellness resources; employee assistance programs; retirement savings options such as a 401(k); financial planning tools; life insurance; employee discounts; paid holidays; paid time off; tuition reimbursement; and scholarships for early childhood and post-secondary education. Bonus or other non-recurring compensation may be available for qualified positions and, if applicable, would be discussed during screening.
