Job description
Role overview
An opportunity has opened for a research-focused professional to support adult kidney research activity within the Adult Kidney, Transplant, Urology and Urology-Oncology research operational team. The post will serve as a key contact for adult renal research across the organisation.
What the role involves
You will coordinate studies within Research & Innovation, making sure the administrative side of study delivery is efficient, accurate, and compliant. This includes setting up studies, arranging the required approvals, managing data, and supporting financial processes linked to study start-up and income recovery alongside the R&I finance team.
The role also requires close working with the Trust Research Office, clinical teams, support departments, and pharmaceutical partners to keep the research portfolio running smoothly.
Research focus
The team’s research aims include generating solid evidence for basic science and early proof-of-concept work, using pre-clinical trials to assess the safety and effectiveness of new treatments, and running prospective randomised national and international studies to improve current care and treatment regimens for adults with renal disease.
Current programmes cover treatment approaches in kidney disease, slowing chronic kidney disease progression, reducing or preventing CKD complications, improving quality of life, and improving dialysis adequacy, dialysis methods, and transplantation.
Requirements and working expectations
The successful candidate will need a background in health services, together with knowledge or experience of research, clinical trial coordination, trial delivery, and monitoring.
Strong understanding of research governance, relevant legislation, and inspection requirements is essential, along with familiarity with NHS governance and approval processes. You should also be comfortable handling a busy and varied workload, working on several projects at once, and using IT confidently.
Flexibility is important, as the role may require working across multiple research sites on the organisation’s campuses.
About the organisation
The employer is one of the largest NHS trusts in England, serving around 1 million patients each year and bringing together hospitals and community services across Manchester, Trafford, and surrounding areas. It is a large academic research centre and education provider with a strong focus on digital systems, research, innovation, inclusion, and staff development.
