Job description

About the company

Distalmotion is a global MedTech organization focused on broadening access to robotic surgery through technology that is simpler and more flexible to use. Its DEXTER® Robotic Surgery System helps more surgeons and care sites, particularly smaller and budget-conscious ambulatory surgical centers, adopt robotic assistance while keeping efficiency and profitability in mind.

DEXTER is built to fit into existing surgical routines with minimal disruption. It can be moved easily, deployed quickly, and adapted to operating rooms of different sizes. The system is commercially available in the United States and Europe. Distalmotion is based in Lausanne, Switzerland, and also operates a US office in Cleveland, Ohio.

Role overview

The Clinical Training Specialist is an important part of the US Training team. This position delivers clinical education to surgeons, nurses, and reprocessing technicians, and also supports the onboarding and certification of new Clinical Sales Specialists. In addition, the role oversees the day-to-day running of one or more US training centers.

The goal of the role is to ensure that both internal teams and external stakeholders gain the knowledge and hands-on capability needed to use DEXTER safely, effectively, and with a strong customer experience in mind.

This is a growth-focused period for Distalmotion, as the company continues to expand US clinical indications and train more surgeons across the country.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead training sessions for newly onboarded surgeons, nurses, and reprocessing technicians in dry lab, wet lab, and on-site settings, including the Center for the Future of Surgery (CFS) lab in San Diego and other locations as required.
  • Adapt training content and delivery methods in a compliant way so they match the needs of different audiences.
  • Deliver internal onboarding and certification programs for new Clinical Sales Specialists, making sure they gain the required knowledge and capability for their roles.
  • Oversee certification activities and evaluate trainee performance.
  • Manage the CFS training center and any other assigned centers, including coordination with owners and internal/external stakeholders, as well as stock, logistics, and maintenance.
  • Conduct training using multiple modalities, such as porcine, cadaveric, and inanimate models.
  • Plan and run refresher programs to keep stakeholder knowledge and skills current.
  • Provide ongoing training so users maintain strong competence with the system.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to define training needs and align delivery with customer expectations and company objectives.
  • Develop productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support continuous learning and improvement.
  • Keep accurate documentation of training sessions, attendance, and assessment results.
  • Prepare recurring training reports and share insights that can improve outcomes.
  • Secure the vendor credentialing needed to enter operating rooms across hospitals, ambulatory surgical centers, and other procedure sites.
  • Offer technical assistance on the DEXTER Robot to surgeons when required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • At least 5 years of experience in medical device training is needed.
  • Experience in a MedTech setting is important; experience with laparoscopy or robotic systems is advantageous.
  • Strong verbal and presentation skills are necessary for teaching and facilitation.
  • Ability to build trust and relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Excellent planning, organization, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Comfort working under tight deadlines while staying flexible, creative, and effective.
  • Self-directed work style with the ability to collaborate well across functions.
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% domestically in the US for most of the year.
  • Ability to stand and work in operating room environments, including during extended surgical procedures.
  • Valid driver’s license and readiness to travel to customer locations.
