Job description

About the role

WorkSafe Victoria is seeking two full-time, ongoing Claims Specialists to join the Medical and Like team in Wadawurrung/Geelong. This hybrid position requires presence in the office three days each week and offers a salary of $137,963 per year plus 12% superannuation.

In this role, you will help steer important team priorities, contribute to the launch and delivery of initiatives, and provide technical guidance to agents and other internal areas. The position plays a key part in improving outcomes across sustainability, APA, and service measures, while also supporting broader branch and division projects as business needs change.

What you will do

  • Provide authoritative advice on how the Act, policies, and guidelines should be applied and interpreted by agents.
  • Take the lead, or work as an active contributor, in designing, delivering, and assessing claims management initiatives aligned to business priorities.
  • Recommend strategic approaches for the area of responsibility while considering agency-wide impacts, especially in matters related to medical and like services.
  • Present updates on current work programs to relevant teams and leaders.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes or policy through data insights and keep data management systems up to date.
  • Build and apply monitoring frameworks to assess whether initiatives are effective.
  • Manage competing priorities and strategic demands so team plans and project outcomes align with organisational objectives.
  • Coordinate and take part in claim reviews, audits, and health checks with agents.
  • Use current operational claims management knowledge to support delivery.
  • Participate in forums with WorkSafe staff and external stakeholders, offering constructive input where required.

What you will bring

  • A solid understanding of the legal, policy, and operational environment that governs WorkSafe, including the ability to identify and shape responses based on legislation and Acts.
  • The ability to coordinate others and influence senior stakeholders toward agreed outcomes.
  • Experience building effective working relationships with senior leaders, agents, employer groups, unions, and internal stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and conceptual thinking skills.
  • Well-developed facilitation and negotiation skills, with the ability to use stakeholder data, analysis, and research to support decisions across varied audiences.
  • Experience turning policy into practical operational processes and procedures.
  • The capacity to plan, organise, and prioritise work and resources in a changing environment and within organisational limits.
  • A willingness to challenge existing approaches and propose better ideas.
  • Relevant tertiary study or equivalent industry experience.
  • Working knowledge of WorkSafe, its agents, and the Victorian workers’ compensation legislation relevant to the role.
  • Specialist knowledge of the claims environment.
