Role Summary
As a Claim Analyst, you will handle demurrage and shipping-related claims across charterparty and sale contract frameworks. The role involves reviewing shipping documents, calculating claims, negotiating settlements, and working closely with both external counterparties and internal teams in a fast-moving trading environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Examine charterparties and the associated shipping paperwork to prepare and calculate demurrage and other shipping-related claims with shipowners.
- Assess charterparty-related demurrage and shipping cost claims that are submitted for review.
- Study sale contracts and related documents, including GTCs, to prepare and compute demurrage and shipping claims with counterparties such as suppliers, receivers, and terminals.
- Review demurrage and sales-contract-related demurrage and shipping cost claims received from other parties.
- Negotiate and respond to claim settlements, while coordinating with internal stakeholders when needed.
- Build and sustain effective working relationships with counterparties and business teams.
- Support the regular reporting of open positions to management.
- Stay current on market developments and legal precedents so trading terms and charterparty language remain relevant and up to date.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of experience in demurrage or claims handling, preferably covering both charterparty and sale contract claims, and managing the full range of demurrage values.
- Polytechnic Diploma or higher tertiary qualification.
- Strong analytical ability, good numeracy, and a proactive work style.
- High attention to detail and a meticulous approach to work.
- Comfortable using AI tools and new technologies to improve everyday efficiency.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Capable of working independently as well as collaboratively in a team.
- Able to perform well in a fast-paced and pressure-driven environment.
