This leadership position is accountable for making sure business priorities, customer outcomes, risk controls and innovation all move in the same direction, in support of the company’s purpose and New Frontier strategy.

As part of both the Australian Leadership Team and the Asia Technology Leadership Team, the CIO will also act as the organisation’s technology voice with the Board, regulators and other external stakeholders. The role is central to driving growth, strengthening operational resilience and creating competitive advantage through digital transformation.

Key responsibilities

  • Set the enterprise-wide strategy for technology, digital, data and AI, ensuring it aligns with business goals, customer needs and global standards.
  • Drive end-to-end transformation, covering roadmap design, governance, funding, delivery and the adoption of AI-enabled ways of working.
  • Own the Data & Analytics agenda, with responsibility for data architecture, governance, data quality and regulatory compliance.
  • Manage the technology architecture, platforms and application delivery function to ensure stability, scalability and fit with business requirements.
  • Oversee strategic SaaS platforms and the vendor landscape to improve performance, resilience, value and risk outcomes.
  • Lead the enterprise PMO, including prioritisation, delivery governance, benefits tracking and modern delivery practices such as Agile and DevSecOps.
  • Hold accountability for cyber security, technology risk and regulatory obligations, including APRA requirements and engagement with regulators.
  • Represent the technology function externally and build productive relationships with major clients, vendors and industry partners.
  • Manage technology financials, including budgeting, investment decisions and cost efficiency initiatives.
  • Lead, mentor and grow a high-performing, inclusive team across technology, data and PMO functions, with a focus on future-ready capability.

Requirements

  • At least 15 years of technology leadership experience, preferably in insurance or financial services, with a history of delivering large, regulated transformation programs.
  • Background leading diverse technology teams across architecture, engineering, infrastructure and cybersecurity, while building strong organisational capability.
  • Deep experience in technology strategy, enterprise architecture and management of SaaS and vendor ecosystems supporting critical platforms.
  • Ability to influence senior executives and shape strategic outcomes across both business and technology environments.
  • Strong record of delivering digital, data and AI change, including the introduction of AI-enabled operating practices within regulated settings.
  • Demonstrated leadership in AI strategy and adoption, with the ability to embed ethical, governed AI use that improves productivity, innovation and customer outcomes.
  • Experience working with regulators and assurance teams such as Risk, Compliance and Internal Audit, including remediation and control environment sustainment.
  • Understanding of current architecture and engineering approaches, including cloud, APIs, data platforms and digital channels.
  • Proven success in major transformation, digital insurance or platform modernisation initiatives.
  • Strong commercial judgement and the ability to balance customer value, risk, cost and delivery speed.
