Role overview
A respected professional membership organization that supports Delaware’s business community is looking for a strategic, entrepreneurial Chief Executive Officer to guide its next stage of expansion and renewal. The organization is entering a transition after a long-tenured leader’s retirement, and the Board wants an executive who can preserve what works while opening new avenues for growth, stronger member participation, and broader statewide influence.
This position is best suited to a hands-on leader who enjoys cultivating relationships, shaping strategy, and representing an influential organization in public settings.
Location and travel
The role is remote within the Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, or Washington, DC region. The selected candidate must also be able to travel across Delaware as needed.
Compensation
The base pay for this position is $140,000 to $180,000 per year, along with benefits.
Key responsibilities
- Set the organization’s overall strategic direction and manage daily operations.
- Work closely with the Board of Directors to design and carry out long-range growth plans.
- Increase membership through recruitment, retention, and engagement initiatives.
- Create and launch new partnerships and income-producing programs.
- Act as the organization’s main spokesperson with business leaders, policymakers, regulators, and community partners.
- Deepen connections across Delaware’s business and professional networks.
- Oversee financial planning, budgeting, and organizational results.
- Advance advocacy efforts and coordinate with outside government affairs support as needed.
- Lead, support, and develop a small internal team while promoting accountability and strong service standards.
- Raise the organization’s visibility and clearly communicate its mission and value.
Qualifications
- Senior leadership background in an association, nonprofit, membership group, chamber of commerce, professional services environment, or a comparable setting.
- Solid experience in operations and business management.
- Proven ability to expand organizations, improve member engagement, raise funds, develop business, or drive revenue.
- Excellent communication skills and a strong ability to build relationships.
- Experience partnering with boards, committees, and outside stakeholders.
- A strategic approach combined with the ability to execute directly and practically.
- Comfort serving as a visible leader across Delaware.
- CPA credentials or prior accounting-industry experience are welcome but not mandatory.
