Job description
About Hawkesbury Race Club
Hawkesbury Race Club (HRC) is a not-for-profit thoroughbred racing club situated in Clarendon, NSW, approximately 60 kilometers northwest of Sydney. Established in 1871, HRC operates under Racing NSW regulations, managing race meetings, non-raceday events, a training track, and motel accommodation. It plays a significant role in NSW thoroughbred racing and the local Hawkesbury community.
The Opportunity
This is a unique chance to lead one of regional NSW's oldest racing clubs during a critical period. Reporting initially to an Administrator appointed by Racing NSW and later to a Board of Directors, the CEO will provide strategic direction for all club operations. This includes race meeting execution, precinct development, financial health, human resources, and community relations.
Key Priorities
- Ensure financial sustainability across all HRC business areas: racing, training, events, and the motel.
- Guide the club's strategic path in collaboration with the Administrator and/or Board.
- Boost commercial revenue and cultivate strong stakeholder relationships.
- Manage daily operations, encompassing racing, events, hospitality, and venue/motel management.
- Develop a long-term master plan for the Hawkesbury Racecourse precinct.
- Guarantee adherence to all regulatory mandates.
- Cultivate robust connections with the community, industry organizations, and government entities.
- Foster a high-performance culture aligned with HRC's core values: One Team, Accountable, Do the Right Thing, Professional, and Pride.
About You
We are looking for a commercially astute and dynamic leader with:
- Proven senior leadership experience with full Profit & Loss responsibility in commercial, venue, events, sports, or hospitality sectors.
- Proficient financial management skills, including budgeting, reporting, and cost control.
- A demonstrated history of successful stakeholder engagement with boards, government, industry partners, and community groups.
- The capacity to lead organizational change and promote a positive, values-driven workplace culture.
Experience within the racing, wagering, or related sports industries, familiarity with licensed venue management, and exposure to capital works or precinct development are considered significant advantages.
