  • Work with the Director of Human Resources and Organizational Development to build a strong internal culture and maximize the value of the workforce.
  • Represent HJA as its public face, engaging in community service groups, speaking opportunities, forums, education events, and other outreach activities.
  • Promote a consistent, positive image of the hospital, its mission, programs, and services among patients, physicians, employees, stakeholders, and the broader community.
  • Oversee the COO’s work related to capital assets, construction, facility rehabilitation, and operational infrastructure needed to support high-quality programs and services.
  • Perform additional duties assigned by the Board of Directors as needed.
  • Lead and supervise executive team members, including the Chief Medical Officer, Chief Finance Officer, Chief Operating Officer, and Director of Human Resources/Organizational Development.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Public Administration, or another relevant field.
  • Medical or other clinical degree is strongly preferred.
  • At least 10 years of directly relevant experience in a community healthcare facility of comparable size and structure, such as an independent hospital, rural community hospital, or Critical Access Hospital.

  • Ability to perform all essential duties effectively, with reasonable accommodation where appropriate.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Personal Attributes

  • Patient-centered mindset and commitment to making the patient the focus of decisions.
  • Strong commercial and financial judgment, with awareness of healthcare market forces, competition, and policy trends.
  • Ability to build agreement among internal and external stakeholders while still supporting a clear strategic direction.
  • High drive for results, improvement, and execution beyond minimum expectations.
  • Capacity to turn vision into action by organizing people, processes, and priorities effectively.
  • Integrity, honesty, transparency, and sound ethical judgment.
  • Deep commitment to the mission and willingness to advocate for patients and the community.
