Job description

Role overview

An exceptional opportunity has opened up for a senior people leader to shape and deliver major organisational change that improves outcomes for colleagues and patients. The Trust is looking for a principled, energetic, and inclusive Chief Culture and People Officer to sit on the Board and help steer a broad transformation agenda.

In this position, you will work closely with Board members and Care Group leadership teams to embed lasting cultural improvement and to make the People Strategy a key driver of the wider Organisation Strategy. A central part of the role is to exemplify Trust values and champion a workplace culture defined by compassion, transparency, and high standards across the People Directorate and the organisation as a whole.

What the Trust is looking for

The Trust welcomes applications from candidates inside or outside the NHS who share its values and who have experience of unionised settings and leading a workforce spread across multiple sites. The ideal candidate will be a strategic people leader, likely already working at board level in a complex organisation, or possibly just below board level in a very large one.

You should bring a strong history of delivering complex change and improvement, along with deep knowledge of workforce strategy and planning, organisational development, and employee engagement. The role also calls for an inclusive leadership style, excellent communication and influencing ability, and the confidence to build trusted relationships across all levels of staff so people feel listened to, supported, and motivated.

Benefits

  • Membership of the NHS Pension Scheme, offering strong retirement benefits together with dependants' pension and lump-sum provision.
  • Annual leave starting at 27 days and increasing to 33 days, depending on length of NHS Trust service.
  • Relocation support of up to 30% of salary, with a maximum cap of £18,000, for hard-to-fill roles where moving is expected to perform the job fully. Any potential package can be discussed with the recruiting team.
  • Access to a range of paid and unpaid leave options for both planned and emergency situations.
  • 24/7 confidential help and guidance through the Employee Assistance Programme for personal, work, family, and relationship matters.
  • Eligibility for the NHS Car Lease scheme and Cycle to Work scheme.
  • A wide selection of learning and development opportunities.
  • Discounts across restaurants, holidays, retail, motoring, cinema, and financial products from participating providers.
