Role summary

At Caterpillar Inc., this procurement role sits within the Electrical & Electronics category and focuses on building supply network solutions that create value across quality, cost, logistics, development, and management (QCLDM). The position is based in Vridhachalam, Tamil Nadu, India.

What you will do

  • Design, maintain, and put into action category sourcing plans, including policies, agreements, source catalogs, and special procurement initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce cost, lower inventory, and improve quality, while also evaluating business proposals and associated risks.
  • Serve as the communication bridge between internal teams and suppliers, ensuring information is shared clearly while balancing production needs and supplier constraints.
  • Track and record supplier performance, especially around delivery timeliness and production support, while building strong supplier partnerships.

What we are looking for

A bachelor’s degree from a Tier 1 college or university is preferred, or equivalent practical experience. The role calls for strong capabilities in data analysis, communication, relationship building, negotiation, contracts administration, purchasing operations, supplier relationship management, and strategic sourcing.

  • Ability to analyze data, spot patterns, and use insights to support business decisions.
  • Comfort working with business, operational, and financial information to evaluate performance.
  • Clear written and verbal communication, with the ability to present ideas and prepare reports.
  • Collaborative working style with the ability to adapt to different stakeholders and viewpoints.
  • Negotiation skills focused on constructive, win-win outcomes.
  • Working knowledge of contract review, compliance, and documentation practices.
  • Understanding of procurement procedures, systems, regulations, and sourcing methods.
  • Experience or familiarity with supplier relationship management and resolving supplier issues.

Additional information

  • The job follows a five-day in-office work pattern.
  • Domestic and overseas travel may account for about 50% of the role.
