Recruitment Giant is supporting the hiring process for Dangote Refinery and Petrochemicals for the Category Buyer position.
Role summary
This is a full-time, on-site position in Lagos. The Category Buyer will oversee assigned product categories, manage supplier discussions, review procurement data, and lead contract negotiations. The role also focuses on shaping cost-effective buying strategies, strengthening supplier partnerships, and ensuring purchasing activities support business objectives.
Key responsibilities
- Manage assigned procurement categories and overall buying activity.
- Negotiate with suppliers and handle contract discussions.
- Study procurement patterns, market movements, and sourcing opportunities.
- Develop and improve purchasing strategies to deliver value and control costs.
- Build and maintain productive relationships with suppliers.
- Prepare and issue RFQs, RFPs, and tender documentation.
- Review supplier proposals against commercial and technical criteria.
- Assess supplier capabilities and market options through research and analysis.
- Track supplier delivery and performance using KPIs and regular reviews.
- Work with engineering, maintenance, operations, and finance teams to understand needs and plan procurement.
- Ensure buying activities follow company policy, ethical expectations, and applicable regulations.
- Look for opportunities to reduce cost, improve processes, and add value.
- Administer contracts and confirm suppliers meet their obligations.
- Monitor procurement data and prepare reports for management.
- Support inventory optimization and risk-reduction efforts.
Qualifications and experience
- A bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Engineering, Business Administration, or a similar field is required.
- Professional certifications such as CIPS, CPSM, or an equivalent credential are an added advantage.
- Applicants should have between 3 and 10 years of procurement or sourcing experience.
- Experience in oil and gas, petrochemicals, refining, manufacturing, or another heavy-industry environment is preferred.
- Prior exposure to high-value category management and supplier negotiations is important.
- A solid grasp of procurement workflows, strategic sourcing, and contract administration is expected.
