Job description
Role overview
Cheshire Ireland is recruiting energetic, motivated, and compassionate Care Support Workers for O’Dwyer Cheshire Services in County Mayo. The role suits people who are creative, experienced in supporting others, and genuinely committed to improving the everyday lives of the individuals they assist.
About the organisation
Cheshire Ireland delivers high-quality support services for adults living with physical, sensory, and neurological disabilities, including people with medium and high support needs. The organisation focuses on enabling independence, protecting rights, and supporting overall wellbeing through person-centred care.
Working approach
The service is built around the principle of supporting each person individually, one at a time. Team members are expected to provide rights-based, person-centred support, adapt well to change, and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.
Key duties
You will assist people with the day-to-day activities identified in their personal plans, helping them live as independently and meaningfully as possible. The work involves building respectful, equal relationships with the people supported while promoting dignity, autonomy, and inclusion.
This position spans both residential and community settings and includes work across mornings, evenings, nights, and weekends. The roster operates over 24 hours, seven days a week.
Candidate profile
Applicants should be highly motivated and committed to personal development, professional growth, and high standards of communication. A positive outlook, integrity, trustworthiness, and comfort using computers are all important, and experience with online care systems would be an advantage.
Qualifications and experience
Candidates should hold, or be actively working toward, at least QQI Level 5 in Healthcare Support, QQI Level 6 in Social Care, or a Nursing qualification. Experience supporting people with disabilities is required.
People without formal qualifications may still be considered if they are willing to complete QQI Level 5 Healthcare Support within 18 months of starting. A full manual driving licence, or progress toward obtaining one, is also required, along with a willingness to drive for work.
Eligibility and employment conditions
Applicants must be eligible to work in Ireland and have a good standard of spoken and written English. Shortlisted candidates will be required to undergo Garda National Vetting Bureau checks and provide security clearance for any jurisdiction where they have lived outside the Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland for 6 months or more since the age of 16.
Pay and benefits
The salary range is €34,100.68 to €39,625.68 per year, depending on experience. Extra premiums are paid for unsocial hours.
Additional benefits include flexible working hours, career progression opportunities, induction and ongoing learning through Cheshire Academy, free onsite parking, sick pay, company pension scheme, maternity benefit, bike/cycle to work scheme, employee assistance programme, death-in-service benefit for pension members, employee referral scheme, QQI training programme, welcome packs, and employee discounts.
Important dates
The closing date for applications is 3 July 2026 at 5:00 pm.
Employer statement
