Role overview

South College is seeking a driven, personable academic leader to serve as the Campus Academic Dean for its Marietta, Georgia campus. This position plays a key role in advancing the institution’s mission of helping students find direction through education. The college is a fast-growing higher education organization with more than 20,000 students across 10 campuses and online learning sites, offering a wide range of undergraduate and graduate healthcare programs.

The Academic Dean will be responsible for leading the academic operations of the Marietta site in partnership with the Campus President and the institution’s Chief Academic Officer.

What you will do

  • Oversee day-to-day academic operations and coordinate academic activity with staff at the main campus.
  • Keep attention on faculty scholarship, ongoing training, and performance evaluation.
  • Make sure office, classroom, and laboratory areas, along with their equipment, are used effectively.
  • Maintain up-to-date records for each faculty member, including training, experience, and service history.
  • Develop and propose a quarterly class schedule after consulting with department chairs and program directors.
  • Support site-level handling of personnel and student concerns such as discipline and conduct matters, and share relevant updates and recommended actions with the Campus President in coordination with the Chief Academic Officer’s office.
  • Work with academic and student services teams on budget requests and help gather recommendations for annual budget reviews.
  • Prepare recurring administrative and faculty performance evaluations as needed.
  • Take part in annual updates to the college catalog, policy manuals, job descriptions, and other recurring documents.
  • Partner with the Vice Chancellor for Institutional Advancement and Effectiveness on strategic planning and ongoing assessment of institutional effectiveness.
  • Contribute to the development and review of new and existing academic programs.
  • Prepare or support preparation of reports required by accrediting bodies, state agencies, federal agencies, or other organizations.
  • Ensure designated Learning Site representatives participate in institutional committees when appropriate.

Candidate profile

Applicants should bring strong academic leadership experience and a background that supports higher education administration. The role calls for evidence of advanced education, familiarity with program assessment, accreditation, and academic operations, along with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.

Qualifications

  • An earned doctorate in education or a related discipline is preferred, along with at least a master’s degree and progress toward a doctoral degree.
  • Five years of professional experience in healthcare or higher education is required; hospital experience is strongly preferred.
  • Teaching experience is preferred.
  • Background in educational theory and methodology is preferred.
  • Experience with program assessment and outcome measurement is required.
  • Experience working with accreditation processes is required.
  • Knowledge of Campus Nexus is preferred.
