Overview
General Dynamics Land Systems–Canada is seeking CAD Designers to join its Design Services team in London, Ontario. This is a 12-month fixed-term contract role focused on creating and maintaining design models and drawings that support mobile defense systems. The organization centers its work on delivering innovative solutions that help customers and the people they serve achieve mission success. The stated hiring range for this position is $28.00 to $35.00.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop solid models, layouts, and linked assembly/detail drawings from sketches, notes, or guidance provided by senior designers or project engineers, while meeting strict company, industry, and military standards.
- Design mobile defense subsystems with limited oversight using NX CAD software connected to the Teamcenter database.
- Carry out design calculations and comparison studies when needed.
- Update existing technical data packages with engineering change requests.
- Perform motion and interference checks for dynamic assemblies.
- Assist bid and proposal work by defining scope and preparing labour estimates, including basis of estimate documentation.
- Support the creation of department processes, standards, and related documentation when required.
- Provide system-level CAD model and product-structure support, and manage working files for multiple design teams when needed.
- Help develop standard parts and load them into the Teamcenter classification database when required.
Required Qualifications
- A university degree or college diploma in electrical or mechanical studies.
- Practical mechanical design experience using CAD tools.
- Experience with NX CAD for modelling, drafting, and advanced assemblies, including experience gained through school where applicable.
- Strong understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, from individual components through to complex assemblies.
- Good knowledge of drafting practices and drawing standards.
- Proficiency with MS Office applications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Exposure to defense or mobile equipment standards such as MIL-Specs, ASME, SAE, or FMVSS.
- Working knowledge of Teamcenter product data management software.
- OACETT-certified Mechanical Technologist or Technician (CET) with a mobile equipment specialty.
