Job description
About the company
Owner.com builds an AI-first operating system designed to help local businesses thrive, beginning with restaurants. The platform is intended to replace the scattered set of tools owners usually rely on and bring key functions such as websites, online ordering, CRM, POS, and more into one system.
Product approach
The company’s philosophy is to remove work from the owner rather than add more to their plate. Instead of forcing business owners to manually chase growth and profitability, Owner’s software is built to act intelligently on their behalf. The system is meant to attract demand, convert it, and help operators manage their business effectively every day.
The experience is intended to feel like having a high-performing team of operators, engineers, and marketers working alongside the customer.
Vision
Owner began by focusing on helping independent restaurants grow online, but the broader mission extends to all local businesses facing the same pressures from large technology companies. The long-term goal is to expand beyond restaurants and serve millions of local business owners in the digital era.
Traction
Since 2020, the company has produced tens of millions in revenue and handled more than one billion dollars in online orders. One in five Americans has used an Owner.com website. The company has also supported more than 20,000 restaurant owners and helped them save nearly $200 million in fees.
Team
The organization now has a team in the low hundreds and includes talent from companies such as Shopify, HubSpot, DoorDash, ServiceTitan, Rappi, Faire, and Stripe. Growth is expected to accelerate further in 2026 alongside customer expansion.
Work location
Owner operates as a remote-first global company with headquarters in San Francisco and a sales hub in Toronto. While many roles are distributed, this position requires in-office collaboration five days per week at the downtown Toronto office at 185 Spadina Ave.
Role overview
Owner is hiring a Business Development Representative to join its revenue team. This position is suited to someone who enjoys helping small businesses grow, has a strong record in sales, and values building trust with restaurant owners.
Key responsibilities
- Source leads and create new opportunities through cold calling, texting, and social outreach.
- Find fresh ways to re-engage inactive prospects and bring them back into the pipeline.
- Work cold leads thoughtfully and keep communication clear throughout the nurturing process while coordinating with the Account Executive.
- Assess prospects to determine whether they are a strong fit for Owner’s products and services.
- Partner with the broader team to refine outbound BDR strategy and contribute ideas that improve the sales motion.
- Keep learning by working with sales peers, sales leadership, and cross-functional colleagues.
- Push beyond quota expectations and support teammates and company goals wherever possible.
What we are looking for
- At least 2 years of experience in software sales, ideally within SMB SaaS.
- A proven record of consistently outperforming goals in professional and personal settings.
- Strong self-discipline and a pattern of setting ambitious standards and meeting or exceeding them.
- Clear communication skills, strong influence ability, and a persistent, confident style.
- A customer-focused sales mindset with a genuine interest in understanding restaurant owners’ needs.
- Commitment to long-term customer relationships rather than short-term wins.
- A naturally curious, growth-oriented attitude with an interest in continuous learning and applying new ideas.
- Comfort working in a fast-moving environment that demands adaptability, grit, competitiveness, and resilience.
- Experience with restaurants or small businesses, either through selling to them or working in them, is a strong advantage.
Interview process
- Recruiter screen: a 30-minute phone call to discuss your background, your goals, and any early questions.
- Hiring manager screen: a 30-minute video interview to explore your experience and working style in more depth.
- Technical case study: a 1-hour video interview with a sales leader focused on your skills, approach, and how you would perform in the role.
- Final round: a 30-minute video conversation with a member of the executive team.
Compensation and benefits
The total on-target earnings for this role are $90,000 CAD, made up of a $70,000 base salary, a $20,000 incentive component, and uncapped commission. The package also includes a generous pre-IPO equity grant.
Additional benefits include comprehensive health coverage, a monthly lifestyle stipend, unlimited and flexible PTO, and other perks.
