Job description
About the company
IFIBRE is an expanding telecommunications provider in New Zealand, offering broadband and mobile services nationwide. The business is positioning itself as a challenger in a competitive market and wants to grow its customer base, increase market share, and become a well-known name in broadband and mobile solutions.
This is a ground-floor opportunity. The selected person will join as the first team member working directly with the owner, with real influence over the company’s direction, culture, and future success.
IFIBRE’s approach is that the people helping to build the company should also benefit from its success. The team is seen as partners rather than simply employees, and the business aims to create a workplace where contributions are appreciated, supported, and recognised.
The opportunity
The business is looking for a highly motivated Business Development Manager who enjoys creating opportunities, opening conversations, and bringing in new customers.
This is not a conventional sales position. The ideal person should be comfortable working on their own, making calls, starting conversations, handling objections, and staying persistent to achieve clear results.
At the beginning, the engagement will be as an independent contractor with commission-based pay. The role offers remote flexibility, but performance will be measured by real business growth.
The expected time commitment is around 8 to 10 hours per week at the start, with room for the role to grow into a larger long-term opportunity as results are achieved.
For someone who proves they can drive growth and deliver strong outcomes, there may be a longer-term partnership path, including possible equity participation in IFIBRE.
Key responsibilities
- Create new business opportunities for IFIBRE’s broadband and mobile offerings.
- Develop and maintain a healthy pipeline of potential customers.
- Identify target segments, market opportunities, and possible partnerships.
- Carry out outbound prospecting through cold calling, email outreach, networking, and relationship-building.
- Speak with prospects, understand their needs, and recommend appropriate solutions.
- Turn leads and opportunities into new customer accounts.
- Help shape repeatable sales methods and suggest improvements to growth strategy.
- Keep sales activity and pipeline records accurate and up to date.
- Represent the IFIBRE brand professionally in the market.
What success looks like
Success in this role will be assessed through steady new customer acquisition, stronger market presence and brand awareness, the creation of a repeatable sales process, proactive opportunity generation, and the demonstration of ownership, initiative, and commitment to business growth.
The role also calls for a customer-first mindset and the ability to provide support after the sale.
About you
The ideal candidate is driven by performance-based rewards and uncapped earning potential. They want to help build something meaningful rather than simply occupy a position.
You should be comfortable in an early-stage business, able to work independently, and confident taking responsibility for results. Strong relationship-building skills, resilience, and the ability to continue after rejection are important.
You should also be comfortable with cold calling and proactive business development, and bring strong communication, negotiation, and influencing ability. A focus on delivering outcomes and contributing meaningfully to the business is essential.
Experience in telecommunications, broadband, technology, utilities, subscription services, or direct sales would be helpful, but attitude, drive, and the ability to create opportunities matter most.
Remuneration and engagement terms
- Commission-only pay structure, with a top-up to minimum wage where required under New Zealand employment law.
- Performance-based earnings with no upper limit.
- Flexible remote working arrangement.
- Initial engagement as an independent contractor.
- Approximate starting commitment of 8 to 10 hours each week.
- Opportunity for the role to expand as business results grow.
- Potential for a long-term arrangement.
- Potential to build and lead the sales function over time, once the role is proven.
- Exceptional contributors may be considered for equity participation as IFIBRE grows.
Why join IFIBRE
This is a rare chance to join an ambitious business at the beginning of its growth journey. You will not be one of many in a large sales team; instead, you will have direct influence on how the company expands, how customers are acquired, and how the brand develops.
The business wants to create an environment where people feel valued, supported, and genuinely part of the journey. Those who make a significant contribution should also have the opportunity to share in the success they help create.
For the right person, this role offers the chance to build something meaningful, create a rewarding income stream, and potentially become a long-term partner in the future of IFIBRE.
How to apply
Applicants should share their experience, explain why this opportunity appeals to them, and include examples of times they successfully created new business.
