About the role
Spotlight Reporting is growing and is seeking a high-achieving Business Development Manager to win new business across the accounting, multi-entity, and franchise markets. The position is based in Wellington, New Zealand, and reports to the APAC Sales Director. It may be offered as either a full-time role or part-time role of 2 to 3 days per week.
The company builds cloud accounting software and advisory tools that help accountants, CFOs, and finance leaders produce dashboards, reports, and forecasts with greater speed and clarity. It also supports accounting firms with education resources that help them expand into advisory services and create new revenue streams. The business is an award-winning company operating in the cloud accounting software space and has been established as a strong market solution for more than 14 years.
Key responsibilities
- Win new revenue in the assigned region while working closely with Customer Success, Education, Training, and Support teams to support client retention.
- Create a strong, qualified sales pipeline from marketing-generated leads as well as direct outreach, then work that pipeline consistently to hit monthly targets.
- Strengthen the company’s reputation in the market and help broaden its reach.
- Build and deliver a quarterly territory plan focused on new business growth and brand visibility.
- Act as a visible ambassador for the business through networking, content sharing, market awareness, event attendance, event creation, and proactive public relations.
- Spend time meeting prospects in person and travelling throughout the allocated territory to build trust and uncover new opportunities.
- Contribute to the wider global sales team by sharing your own experience while learning from specialists across the business.
- Develop strong partnerships with both new and existing customers and look for ways to deepen commercial relationships.
- Support accountants in moving beyond compliance and tax work by showing how the product helps them automate and improve advisory services for their clients.
- Build relationships with Xero, MYOB, and other software partners gaining traction in the region.
- Represent the company at meetings, conferences, and networking events to connect with relevant prospects.
What you bring
- A strategic, organised, and proactive mindset with the ability to manage lead generation and pipeline development quickly and effectively.
- Strong determination and persistence, with a consistent focus on achieving monthly targets.
- A consultative selling style and the confidence to influence customers and stakeholders toward new business.
- The ability to build trusted rapport with prospects while always putting the customer first.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with strong presentation, business analysis, and negotiation abilities.
- Comfort using internal systems such as Salesforce and Slack, and a commitment to keeping them up to date.
- The discipline to work within established processes while also contributing fresh ideas.
- Independence within your territory, plus a collaborative attitude as part of a supportive and energetic team.
Experience and background
- At least 2 years of experience in hunting and closing new business sales.
- A solid academic record; a Bachelor’s degree in accounting is an advantage but not required.
- Experience in SaaS or the accounting sector would be beneficial.
What’s on offer
- The opportunity to work at the cutting edge of the cloud-based accounting movement.
- A chance to be an important part of the company’s global growth journey.
- Close collaboration with a motivated, skilled, and tight-knit team working with accounting firms, direct business clients with multi-entity needs, and software partners.
- Supportive growth opportunities for both individual development and team development.
- A competitive package that includes base salary, commission, and travel.
- An open and friendly culture where ideas and initiative are welcomed and valued.
