Job description
Role Overview
This position is for a Business Analyst focused on UPI and IMPS within the Information Technology team in Navi Mumbai (Airoli). The role centers on analysing, designing, and supporting delivery of retail payments capabilities across banking channels and switch-based ecosystems. The selected professional will work closely with business stakeholders, NPCI, operations, technology teams, and external vendors to translate regulatory updates and scheme changes into scalable payment features.
What You Will Do
- Collect, interpret, and record business needs for UPI/IMPS and associated payment products across mobile, internet, branch, and API-based channels.
- Examine user stories and use cases covering full payment journeys, including payer/payee flow, switching, NPCI messaging, reconciliation, chargeback, and dispute handling.
- Review existing processes and design future-state processes, including exception handling, timeouts, and reversals for UPI/IMPS transactions.
- Partner with solution and enterprise architects to ensure alignment with core banking, CBS, reconciliation, risk, and other connected systems.
- Serve as the functional SME for UPI and IMPS, including PSP/TPAP operating models, handle/VPA, collect/pay, mandate journeys, and NPCI circulars.
- Translate NPCI specifications, circulars, and regulatory directions into clear business and system implications such as new message fields, transaction limits, risk controls, and compliance deadlines.
- Interpret ISO 8583 and ISO 20022 message structures for UPI/IMPS and map them to internal data models.
- Collaborate with product owners, operations, risk, compliance, and technology teams to prioritise the backlog and define MVP scope for payment initiatives.
- Coordinate with NPCI, payment switches, gateways, and third-party vendors for clarifications, change requests, RFP/RFI reviews, and solution discussions.
- Lead requirement workshops, demonstrations, and walkthroughs for internal teams, senior leadership, and steering groups.
- Prepare functional acceptance criteria, test scenarios, and edge cases for success, failure, timeout, reconciliation, refund, and retry situations.
- Support SIT and UAT by clarifying rules, validating defects, and signing off on fixes, while ensuring regression coverage for payment flows and downstream systems such as reconciliation, GL, and reporting.
- Assess performance and resilience needs such as TPS, timeouts, switch failover, duplicate handling, and idempotency.
- Develop user manuals, SOPs, and training content for operations, contact centre, and branch/business teams.
- Assist with cutover planning, production checks, and hyper-care after go-live, including tracking KPIs such as success rates, declines, and dispute volumes.
- Drive continuous improvement by analysing incident patterns, customer feedback, and scheme updates, and by recommending product and process enhancements.
- Bring hands-on exposure to payment switch, gateway, and CBS integrations for real-time payments.
- Contribute from prior experience in multiple end-to-end implementations or major UPI/IMPS change releases such as UPI 2.0 features, AutoPay, mandate, or TPAP onboarding.
- Work in agile delivery environments as a BA or proxy product owner for payment features.
- Understand payment transaction flows, including payer/payee journeys, PSP/TPAP roles, NPCI switch behaviour, timeouts, declines, and chargebacks.
- Use message formats, APIs, and technical tools including ISO 8583, ISO 20022 concepts, REST/JSON APIs, NPCI message specifications, SQL-based analysis, Linux commands, WebLogic deployment, Postman, Oracle SQL Developer, deployment tools, and NPCI UPI/IMPS CZ certification testing.
