Job description
About the role
Rates.ca Group Ltd. is expanding and is hiring a meticulous, driven Business Analyst for its Product team in Toronto. This role reports to the Director, Innovation and Digital Services and supports the insurance product group, which includes full-stack developers, quality assurance analysts, and product managers, in delivering strong digital insurance experiences.
The right candidate will be experienced in working with stakeholders across multiple teams to gather, shape, and manage product requirements from start to finish.
What you will do
- Work with stakeholders to uncover, interpret, document, and confirm business needs.
- Partner with the product team to define project boundaries, align work with the product vision, and help set backlog priorities.
- Apply different requirements-gathering techniques to capture all necessary details for each initiative.
- Set the scope and key parameters of requirements analysis for each project, including impact, success measures, and outcome criteria.
- Use the current requirement-gathering workflow and suggest refinements where appropriate.
- Support QA and UAT activities for delivered solutions to verify that features are working as intended and are well optimized.
- Review requirements for clarity, completeness, consistency, feasibility, and alignment with standards.
- Prepare precise requirement documents using standard templates, translating high-level ideas into functional requirements that are easy for the wider team to understand.
- Build process maps, specifications, diagrams, and charts to guide the scrum team.
- Monitor requirement progress throughout the project lifecycle and update or adjust them as needed.
- Share requirement changes, improvements, and updates with the scrum team, sponsors, and other stakeholders through verbal and written communication.
- Keep product documentation current with as-is specifications so the team can reference it when needed.
What we are looking for

Strong listening, communication, and interpersonal skills are important, along with a sharp eye for detail. The role also calls for strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving ability, plus the discipline to stay self-motivated and organized in a fast-moving environment.
Experience using SQL is an advantage. You should be comfortable prioritizing work under pressure, collaborating in a team setting, and using project management practices and tools to plan, organize, and coordinate resources effectively.
Experience and education
A college diploma or university degree in business administration, finance, or information systems is required. Candidates should bring at least 5 years of professional experience, with preference for those who have worked in the P&C insurance industry. Prior hands-on experience in business and technical requirements analysis, elicitation, modeling, verification, and methodology development is also expected.
