About the role
Scotiabank is hiring a Business Analysis Specialist to support the Investment Platform team in Toronto, Ontario. This position reports to the Senior Manager, Development and plays a key role in shaping digital products and service experiences that serve millions of customers. The role combines business analysis, solution support, testing, implementation, and coordination across teams to help deliver effective outcomes for both customers and the bank.
Key responsibilities
- Help solve complex, multi-layered problems for the Investment Platform and Compliance teams by applying business and technology knowledge to methods, models, and system solutions.
- Research business needs, document user requirements and process flows clearly, and work closely with users to validate needs.
- Support system delivery by creating test cases, executing tests, defining user procedures and workflows, planning conversion and rollout activities, checking conversions, preparing user guides, training users, and providing after-launch support.
- Assist Operations and Compliance with day-to-day business support, including answering ad hoc questions, delivering user training, and supporting system enhancement design and implementation.
- Keep management informed by communicating progress, flagging issues, and escalating cases when needed.
- Continuously build knowledge of business strategy, policies, risk practices, product sets, financial markets, financial instruments, regulations, and evolving technology to deliver practical solutions for end users.
Skills and experience required
- Experience gathering requirements for applications that use APIs, batch processing, and reporting servers.
- Strong analytical ability with a self-driven, solution-focused, and results-oriented approach.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with users and project teams while using diplomacy and sound judgment to gain alignment.
- Strong familiarity with current IT practices, systems development methods, requirements documentation, testing approaches, analytical modelling tools, and fast-changing technology.
- Ability to interpret business workflows and understand how they affect system behaviour.
- Experience collaborating with multiple downstream teams.
- Background working on complex programs with many dependencies.
- Comfort with late-stage change control and maintaining scope discipline.
Education and additional requirements
- A recognized undergraduate degree in business, mathematics, computer science, or a related field.
- Ability to assess how development work or changes affect the broader data processing environment.
- Previous experience in wealth management or investment products.
- Exposure to mutual funds, trading, switches, PACs (Pre-Authorized Contributions), and digital investing.
- Good understanding of Canadian retail investment product offerings.
- A customer-first mindset when proposing technology solutions to business challenges.
- Working knowledge of Agile project management, risk management, and change management.
- Advanced Excel skills.
- Working knowledge of SQL, JIRA, and Confluence.
