The position combines organizational, technical, and structural fire safety responsibilities with ongoing coordination of building services and infrastructure work.

What you will do

  • Act as the institute’s fire protection officer and take overall responsibility for organizational, technical, and structural fire protection, including the further development of the fire safety setup.
  • Lead and technically supervise all conversion, repair, and maintenance work related to the institute’s technical infrastructure.
  • Plan, operate, and continuously improve the technical equipment used across the site.
  • Create, update, and quality-check all fire safety documentation, such as escape and rescue route plans and fire brigade plans, and align them with existing operational and building structures.
  • Coordinate construction and maintenance measures with particular attention to fire protection requirements.
  • Assess and analyze faults in building services systems.
  • Support upgrades and extensions of media supply infrastructure.
  • Decide on the type, scope, and priority of maintenance actions.
  • Carry out work outside a standard single-shift schedule when required, including weekends.
  • Contribute actively to the continuous improvement process.

What we are looking for

  • Completed vocational training in refrigeration, heating, plumbing, or air-conditioning technology.
  • Practical knowledge of preventive fire protection, covering both structural and technical aspects.
  • Ideally, prior experience as a fire protection officer.
  • Experience maintaining building services systems is desirable.
  • Solid foundational knowledge of relevant technical regulations and standards, including VDE, TRBS, and BetrSichV.
  • Good understanding of technical processes and fault diagnosis.
  • Confident use of standard MS Office applications.
  • Independent, service-oriented working style.
  • Ability to work well in a team and remain flexible, even during periods of high workload.
  • Constructive, goal-oriented way of working.
  • Very strong German language skills, both spoken and written, at C2 level.
  • Suitability for work in cleanroom environments.

What you can expect

  • Highly engaging responsibilities in an environment that combines scientific excellence with entrepreneurial thinking.
  • Attractive compensation under the public-sector collective agreement, plus 30 days of leave, occupational pension provision (VBL), and capital-forming benefits (VWL).
  • A modern, well-equipped workplace in central Berlin.
  • An open and highly collaborative atmosphere in an international team.
  • Flexible working hours.
  • Extensive training, health, and sports offerings.
  • Various employee discounts and a subsidized BVG ticket.
  • Family support services such as an on-site parent-child office, emergency childcare, and leisure activities.
