Job description

Role overview

The Boomi Architect / Consultant is a senior member of the Boomi consulting function at Adaptiv, supporting delivery for partner businesses and helping shape the practice’s technical direction. This role covers solution design, implementation, review, and ongoing enhancement of client IT systems, while also contributing to future pipeline through client meetings, presentations, and proposal responses.

The position works across several projects at once, requires careful prioritisation, and involves guiding a small development team. It is also a pivotal leadership position, serving as the second-in-command to the Practice Lead and influencing the quality and growth of the integration capability.

Client demands drive much of the day-to-day priority setting, so responsiveness and strong stakeholder management are essential.

Key working relationships

  • Internal stakeholders include Executive Management, Architecture, Development, Support, Sales and Marketing, Human Resources, Finance, and Infrastructure teams.
  • External relationships include clients, suppliers, and vendors.

Project management and business growth

  • Partner with the Practice Lead and executive team to meet vendor partnership obligations and help align practice strategy with vendor roadmaps.
  • Represent the practice at joint technical seminars and vendor roadshows.
  • Support the PMO with project resourcing.
  • Help the sales team uncover and win opportunities by joining pre-sales discussions, presenting solutions, and contributing to RFP, SoW, and proposal responses.
  • Work with Sales and Executive teams to strengthen the organisation’s position as a thought leader in integration and cloud architecture.
  • Plan and track your own work and the work of your team to keep delivery on schedule and aligned to priorities.
  • Assess incoming work from a technical, architectural, and consistency standpoint and give clear feedback on feasibility.
  • Join planning sessions as needed.
  • Hold timely meetings with team members and stakeholders to share progress and resolve blockers.

Integration and development

  • Lead development teams through project delivery.
  • Own integration strategy, design, and architecture for clients.
  • Contribute to technical build and implementation work for assigned solutions.
  • Carry out hands-on development where needed for client engagements.
  • Set the standard for solution delivery by promoting proven methods and best practices.
  • Bring strong technical capability in integration platforms and Java-based Boomi environments.
  • Define practical project standards and clarify responsibilities for requests and delivery activities.
  • Recommend improvements to existing systems from both architectural and development perspectives.

API architecture

  • Provide consulting support and implementation assistance.
  • Develop API principles and policies for the relevant solution.
  • Carry out API maturity assessments against recognised industry frameworks.
  • Design and build services and applications connected to the solution.
  • Work with master data as part of solution delivery.

Continuous integration and infrastructure as code

  • Use modern CI/CD platforms such as Azure DevOps, the Atlassian suite, GitLab, and Jenkins.
  • Design and implement end-to-end CI/CD pipelines for integration solutions.

Integration testing

  • Apply test-driven development practices using robust unit and integration testing frameworks.
  • Set up test and UAT environments for clients.

Cloud integration

  • Provide architectural services, including assessment, review, and design.
  • Perform independent vendor evaluation.
  • Implement integrations and APIs within Boomi technology stacks.
  • Support current project implementations.
  • Build proof-of-concept prototypes.
  • Deliver integrations using event-driven architecture principles.

Coaching and continuous improvement

  • Mentor Adaptiv staff and practice team members.
  • Help educate colleagues and stakeholders on good delivery practices.
  • Keep skills current across integration technologies, including Azure Cloud.
  • Contribute ideas to improve development methods and architecture across projects.
  • Promote and embed industry best-practice standards in all work.
  • Stay engaged with vendor programmes and ecosystem developments.

Health, safety, and changing responsibilities

  • Take reasonable care for your own health and safety, and avoid negatively affecting the safety or wellbeing of others at work.
  • Follow organisational policies and procedures and help monitor compliance across the team.
  • As the environment is dynamic, duties may be added, changed, or expanded when required.
  • Being adaptable and open to change is considered part of the role.

Key result areas

  • Produce documentation that is accurate, professional, and delivered on time.
  • Communicate professionally with both clients and internal teams.
  • Work with Sales and Executive leadership to identify and secure opportunities that grow the practice.
  • Keep the team engaged and effective in project delivery.
  • Be present in the office whenever possible to strengthen team culture and provide mentoring and leadership.
  • Meet delivery timelines set by the PMO and/or Principal Architect.
  • Complete all regular internal and client deliverables to the expected standard and on schedule.
  • Suggest practical improvements to the development process.
  • Ensure all work supports the company’s objectives, values, policies, and operating processes.
