Job description
About the Company
Pickle works with founders, operators, and business owners who need dependable financial administration, precise books, and trustworthy reporting. The company provides experienced fractional professionals to fast-growing businesses across different industries, acting as a reliable extension of their internal teams.
This is not a standard employee position. Professionals here operate on a fractional model across several client assignments, handling their own schedules and developing lasting client relationships through expertise, consistency, and professionalism.
If you value variety, independence, and direct collaboration with expanding businesses, this opportunity may be a strong fit.
About the Opportunity
The client is a rapidly expanding, AI-led business moving at high speed and scale. They need an experienced UK bookkeeper to own day-to-day finance operations and keep the finance function accurate, orderly, and dependable as the company continues to grow.
This is a dedicated contractor engagement that requires full-time availability and a proactive, hands-on working style. The person in this role will be a core part of the business operations, helping safeguard financial accuracy while supporting a fast-changing organisation.
The role suits someone who enjoys high-growth settings, takes ownership seriously, and can manage a busy workload confidently without close oversight.
Role Overview
You will be responsible for keeping financial records up to date, carrying out reconciliations, supporting month-end work, and helping ensure compliance with UK accounting rules and reporting requirements.
Because the business moves quickly, priorities may shift often. The ideal candidate will stay detail-oriented under pressure and consistently deliver accurate work in a fast-paced environment.

- Keep bookkeeping records accurate across several accounts and entities
- Complete reconciliations on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis
- Handle accounts payable and expense processing
- Support accounts receivable tasks and payment monitoring
- Draft monthly management accounts and related schedules
- Prepare and file VAT returns
- Maintain compliance with HMRC obligations and UK accounting standards
- Support Making Tax Digital compliance requirements
- Investigate discrepancies and resolve finance-related queries
- Keep records and supporting documents audit-ready
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities
- Work with external accountants and finance stakeholders when needed
- Spot ways to improve finance workflows and operational efficiency
Requirements
- At least 5 years of bookkeeping experience supporting UK businesses
- Strong understanding of UK bookkeeping and accounting principles
- Proven experience handling VAT returns and VAT compliance
- Practical knowledge of HMRC rules and requirements
- Solid understanding of Making Tax Digital
- Experience preparing management accounts
- Background supporting high-growth or fast-scaling businesses
- Comfort working in environments where priorities can change quickly
- Strong double-entry bookkeeping knowledge
- Advanced reconciliation skills
- Excellent attention to detail and financial accuracy
- Strong Excel and spreadsheet ability
- Ability to identify issues, investigate root causes, and implement fixes
- Experience with modern finance technology stacks
- NetSuite experience is highly desirable
- Xero, QuickBooks Online, Dext, and ApprovalMax experience is beneficial
- Familiarity with other cloud-based accounting and finance systems is also useful
- Highly organised and able to work independently
- Comfortable taking full ownership with minimal supervision
- Commercially minded with strong problem-solving ability
- Good at prioritising in a fast-moving setting
- Calm under pressure and able to manage competing deadlines
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills
- Reliable, responsive, and accountable
Availability and Working Pattern
This contractor role requires availability during UK business hours, with a commitment of 160 hours per month, Monday through Friday. Full-time dedication is expected throughout the engagement, and immediate availability is preferred.
Candidates with long notice periods are unlikely to be suitable because the requirement is urgent.
Why This Role Stands Out
This is a chance to join a business at the forefront of AI-driven growth. You will have real ownership, exposure to a high-performing team, and the opportunity to make a meaningful difference to finance operations in a rapidly scaling company.
The role is ideal for someone who likes being the person who keeps the background operations running smoothly while the business focuses on growth.
The company describes itself as not the main ingredient, but the one that brings balance.
