Role Summary

This part-time remote position is focused on bookkeeping and payroll operations. The person in this role will keep financial records accurate and up to date by posting journal entries, reconciling accounts, and preparing simple financial reports. Payroll responsibilities include processing time data, handling deductions, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations. The position also covers updating accounting systems, monitoring revenue and expenses, assisting with month-end and year-end close work, answering finance-related questions from internal teams, and helping improve bookkeeping and payroll workflows. Support for documentation and audit readiness is also part of the role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate accounting records and post journal entries as needed.
  • Perform account reconciliations and help ensure ledger accuracy.
  • Prepare straightforward financial reports for internal use.
  • Process payroll, including timekeeping inputs, deductions, and compliance-related steps.
  • Update accounting software and keep financial data organized.
  • Track income and expenses to support day-to-day financial oversight.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities.
  • Respond to finance and bookkeeping questions from internal stakeholders.
  • Support documentation management and audit preparation.
  • Contribute to ongoing improvements in bookkeeping and payroll procedures.

Qualifications

  • Strong bookkeeping knowledge, including accurate journal entry preparation.
  • Good understanding of financial statements and core finance concepts.
  • Comfort using accounting software for ledgers, payroll, and reconciliations.
  • Prior payroll experience, especially with multi-state payroll and statutory deductions, is a strong plus.
  • High attention to detail, solid organization, and the ability to handle confidential data responsibly.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work independently in a remote setting.
  • Experience in an agency or professional services environment is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of GAAP is preferred.
