Where you'll work
Job description
Opportunity
A leading investment management firm focused on biotechnology and life sciences is hiring Biotechnology Research Analysts and Directors for its New York office. The role blends scientific, clinical, and financial evaluation with active support across portfolio companies. It is intended for someone who can contribute to investment research, operational work, and strategy around therapeutics, while working closely with senior leadership and helping shape drug development and value creation efforts. The preferred setup is hybrid with at least two days in the office, though highly qualified remote candidates may also be considered.
What You’ll Do
- Assess biotechnology assets and therapeutic areas through detailed scientific, clinical, and financial analysis to inform investment and operating choices.
- Review drug development approaches, product opportunities, and the competitive environment across a wide portfolio.
- Assist with indication strategy, clinical development planning, and trial design for current and future portfolio companies.
- Carry out in-depth diligence on scientific, clinical, and commercial factors, then distill the findings for executives, investment committees, and boards.
- Interpret complex medical and research information and turn it into clear reports, presentations, and practical recommendations.
- Support financial and market analysis of biotech businesses and products, including profitability, market position, and transaction-related work.
- Work alongside investment teams, portfolio operations groups, and external advisors to support growth and innovation.
- Take part in operational work inside portfolio companies, including startups, acquisitions, and internal initiatives.
- Contribute to research presentations, operational management, and clinical development projects, with broader responsibility available based on performance.
What We’re Looking For
- A bachelor’s degree or higher in life sciences, chemistry, or medicine is required; a strong academic background is preferred.
- Ability to understand and synthesize technical scientific and clinical material, including Phase 1 to Phase 3 trial documentation, and communicate it to financial and strategic stakeholders.
- Strong numeracy, organization, spoken communication, and writing skills, along with careful attention to detail.
- A strong work ethic, integrity, persistence, and a readiness to learn and handle varied challenges.
- Comfort in a fast-moving, performance-oriented setting with cross-functional responsibilities.
- A commercial outlook and willingness to participate directly in operational management and drug development, not just research or investing.
- Background in financial analysis or familiarity with investment approaches is a strong advantage.
- Ability to work in a hybrid New York setup with at least two days onsite for investor meetings; exceptional remote candidates may also be considered.
Compensation and Additional Details
The annual base pay is expected to fall between $120,000 and $275,000. Final compensation may differ depending on location, work history, education, and skill level. Any bonus eligibility, if applicable, will be confirmed at the offer stage.
