Role Summary
The Autonomous Vehicle Test Operator will drive and supervise a self-driving vehicle while it runs in autonomous mode. The role includes collecting data, sharing observations and feedback, and providing ride-hail service to members of the public.
Eligibility
- You must be at least 21 years old.
- A valid Class C driver’s licence is required.
- You need at least 3 years of experience driving Class C vehicles with a Class C licence.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate autonomous vehicles on both mapped and unmapped routes in a range of weather and environmental conditions, with a mix of manual driving and primary oversight of autonomous behavior.
- Monitor vehicle software, record relevant observations, and give clear verbal feedback or directions about the AV environment.
- Carry out additional testing activities for the autonomous vehicle platform.
- Prepare accurate and timely ride reports for the operations and engineering teams.
- Work scheduled shifts that may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and overnight hours.
- Maintain a strong safety mindset inside and outside the vehicle at all times.
Required Skills
- Comfortable using a laptop and common office applications such as Gmail, Sheets, and Docs.
- Able to operate a smartphone or touchscreen device with confidence.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to communicate observations quickly and clearly.
Physical Requirements
- May involve standing, walking, and extended periods of sitting.
- Requires use of hands and fingers, hearing and speaking, and the ability to climb stairs or ladders.
- May occasionally involve reaching, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
- Must be able to occasionally lift or move up to 45 pounds.
- Needs close, distance, peripheral, and depth vision, along with the ability to adjust focus.
- Most duties take place outdoors from within a vehicle.
